Apple Considers Radical Changes for Apple Watch: Circular Design and Screenless Fitness Band

It seems Apple is not oblivious to the relative stagnation currently affecting the wearable devices sector and is preparing to respond in its own way. According to new leaks from journalist Mark Gurman, the company is working on a comprehensive re-evaluation of the Apple Watch series, with innovations that may include screenless fitness trackers, screens of various shapes and sizes, and even entirely new price categories that we are not accustomed to.

Screenless Fitness Trackers and New Competition

Apple is taking the strong resurgence of screenless fitness bands and the proliferation of smart rings seriously. As a result, the company’s design team is considering developing new devices dedicated to fitness and health that do not contain any display screen, relying entirely on data synchronization with the iPhone.

This move may target users who prefer wearing traditional luxury watches on their wrists but simultaneously wish to track their vital signs and physical activity without the distraction of constant notifications or the need to charge the device daily.

Circular Screen and Ultra-Luxury Categories

Apple has floated the idea within its halls of introducing an Apple Watch with a classic circular screen, a design that a segment of users has long looked forward to. However, Gurman clarified that launching a circular model at the present time remains unlikely, given the software complexities and the watchOS interface’s reliance on the rectangular model.

Conversely, the company is moving toward diversifying price categories like never before; it is considering launching ultra-luxury models that exceed the current Ultra and Hermès categories in price and features, alongside other thinner and less expensive options that would be even lower than the Apple Watch SE model, giving consumers a wide range of choices to suit their different budgets.

Focus on Artificial Intelligence and Health App Development

The changes will not stop at the external appearance or the engineering structure of the watch; rather, Apple plans to deeply support its wearable devices with artificial intelligence technologies. There are long-term plans to completely rebuild the Health app so that it can provide personalized health analyses and information based on smart models.

This comprehensive shift aims to revitalize the wearables, home, and accessories sector, which has recently seen a slowdown in growth. Gurman believes that this reinvention could be as significant as Apple’s historic shift from traditional phones to the foldable iPhone.
