Have you ever heard of the serial number (Serial Number)? This number that distinguishes each device from the other, the iPhone like other devices has a serial number and from this number you can learn a lot of information about the device even without opening its box and knowing how to read the serial number is useful for experts, store owners and even the average user. Let's explore together how Apple creates this serial number.

To learn the serial number of your device, go to the settings, then general, then about, and you will find the number is 11 digits as it appears in the picture above, so let us analyze this number together and see what it means and let the number that we will analyze is 61127XXXA4S and this is a hypothetical number, and we start from the left:
- The first two numbers (61) express the factory code at which the phone was assembled.
- The next number, which is (1), is considered the year of manufacture. For example, No. 1 means 2011, No. 2 means 2012, and No. 8 means 2008, and so on, meaning that Apple takes only the last number.
- The next number, which is (27), expresses the week in which the phone was manufactured, so as we know that the year is 52 weeks, and this phone was made in the 27th week of the year, i.e. roughly in July.
- The next number, which is (XXX), of course (Xxx) is not a number but a code for a number, and it is a unique number dedicated to the phone and there is a specific equation so that this number is distinct and not repeated.
- The next number (A4) which contains the phone's color code, but it was noticed that the color code for the iPhone 4 is not the 4S other than the 3GS and so on.
- The last digit (S), which means the capacity of the phone, for the iPhone 4 and 4S, the cliff S means 16 GB, and the letter K means 32 GB… In the case of the iPhone 3G and 3GS, the 16 GB version is indicated by the letter K.
For old phones, as we have indicated, there is a color code for each of them, and these numbers can be seen with the following examples:
| iPhone 2G Silver 4GB | VR0 |
| iPhone 2G Silver 8GB | WH8 |
| iPhone 2G Silver 16GB | 0KH |
| iPhone 3G Black 8GB | Y7H |
| iPhone 3G Black 16GB | Y7K |
| iPhone 3GS Black 16GB | 3NP |
| iPhone 3GS Black 32GB | 3NR |
| iPhone 3GS White 16GB | 3NQ |
| iPhone 3GS White 32GB | 3NS |
| iPhone 4 Black 16GB | A4S |
| iPhone 4 Black 32GB | A4T |
NoteThe iPhone 4S serial number has 12 characters, which is completely different from what was mentioned and the same for some modern iPhone 4 phones.
