The US Patent and Trademark Office recently published a series of new patents for Apple. The last of them were those that heralded great development In the charging cable. Today, we are talking about a new patent for the addition of side buttons that operate with force of touch, or what is called "force sensitive", which allows the removal of the volume up and down button on the iPhone.

New Apple patent: replacing volume buttons with power touch technology

Apple explains this step that these "virtual" buttons are able to detect and measure the force of finger pressure on them and then execute a specific command. These buttons are designed for future generations of iPhone, iPad, and Apple Watch if Apple has already implemented the patent.

In fact, this patent is an extension of similar patents submitted by Apple concerning the designs of button structures such as the volume buttons, the operation button and the switch button, the method and method of operation, and its various features. As well as the addition of other similar input buttons that work with force of touch. All of this can be seen in future generations of different Apple devices.

Apple envisions in the patent a device like the iPad that features standard elements known to everyone such as a touch screen, a central processor, switches for operation and volume, in addition to various input buttons placed on one side of the device. Apple calls this invention a streamlined surface.

Apple states that these buttons are paired with the processor and are configured to accept several different types of inputs, and they may be compatible with the device’s structure and provide more options using multiple touch methods such as long touch, little pressure, light touch, etc.

Among the models shown, Apple hints at the next generation of the Apple Watch, it is possible that these powerful touch buttons will replace the digital crown button. Incidentally, Apple filed a patent in 2016 for the Apple Watch, which is the presence of buttons that also operate with strong touch instead of the digital crown. In this patent, Apple focuses on the details of the touch sensors of the iPad and the Apple Watch, and the mechanism of their work in terms of sensing the force of pressure and distinguishing between pressures to carry out multiple tasks.

There is no doubt that this patent and its ilk is a deliberate policy implicitly from Apple, which is called a "phone without buttons" to cancel all the buttons from its devices, as it did before, and it canceled the home button and the switch button in order to reduce the openings and buttons, which leads to a better phone. But of course it remains to be mentioned what we always repeat, which is that we do not when these patents are applied, maybe they will be in the next generation or the generations that follow, or it is just the registration of patents to prevent opponents from implementing the same ideas.
