After the announcement of the three iPhone XS, XS Max and XR devices, it seemed to us that the iPhone XR and iPhone XS were similar in some basic points such as the processor, face fingerprint devices, wireless charging, imaging, and all the sensors. And different in several points, where the XS surpasses the XR in the RAM, the type of screen, the XS has stainless steel edges and the XR has aluminum edges, for more information follow this the article. But the most important difference is the screen that comes with the LCD in the XR. This article will get to know the screen that Apple praised and together we will see the advanced technology that Apple provided in it, and why did it say that it is not like any other LCD screen in the world?

IPhone XS and XS Max are equipped with an "OLED" Super Retina screen as opposed to the iPhone XR screen of the "LCD" Liquid Retina type. Apple described the latter that the phone screen is "the most advanced at all in a smartphone", so what's new?

It is worth noting that OLED technology has spread widely in consumer technology products in the past few years. And if you are going to buy a smartphone or even a TV, your best option is OLED screens, not LCDs.

As we know that OLED screens lighting is in the same pixel and do not need backlight. This means that the black parts of the pixel are completely off and have no kind of lighting, and are not affected by the lighting of the pixel next to it, thus saving energy greatly. Unlike LCD screens that need backlighting even if the background is black, this lighting works with the phone running directly.

It is assumed that this difference, which we mentioned, makes it difficult to hide the protrusion in the iPhone XR by setting appropriate wallpapers for it. But the matter is different with the iPhone XS, the protrusion can disappear or fade into a background with a black bar at the top of the screen. Accordingly, it is assumed that the LCD screen of the iPhone XR still carries some light around the bump, even if the background is black, and you will not be able to do anything to hide that protrusion.

As we know, OLED screens only have pixel burnout, which causes ghostly images to appear after displaying the original images. This is the biggest difference between the two screens in general.

So how can Apple claim that the LCD screen outperforms all other smartphones? Perhaps thanks to the new technology that Apple developed for the first time in those screens, which is Liquid Retina, what is this new technology and what is its mechanism of action?

Liquid Retina screen in iPhone XR

It is known that the term Retina means "retina" launched by Apple, starting with the screens of the iPhone 4, after it worked to increase the pixel density, so that the image is high-resolution and clarity. And what Apple presented in the XR screen is as follows:

◉ iPhone XR's 6.1-inch screen carries 1.4 million pixels with a resolution of 326 pixels per inch for a display resolution of 1792 * 828. In terms of dimensions, it comes in length of 150.9 mm compared to 158.4 mm in the 8 Plus; The width is 75.7 mm compared to 78.1 mm for the 8 Plus. This means a bigger screen than the iPhone 8 Plus in a smaller build, says Apple.

◉ Apple uses a modern backlight, because the screen is extended to the edges and corners to ensure that the lighting reaches those areas well.

◉ In the XR phone, Apple adopted a higher level of pixels per inch, to create a paper-like effect where the pixels are invisible to the naked eye.

◉ Apple introduced in that screen what is known as an advanced color management system, which in short means achieving good emulation of real colors, and works to make the colors of the image perfect and ensures the consistency and accuracy of colors, and also works to display the content in a group of large colors automatically so that everything you see in Very cool. As mentioned by Apple on its website.

◉ Thanks to the presence of the True Tone lighting sensor, which works to balance the white color in the screen to match the temperature of the surrounding light colors, the image appears in natural colors as on the printed pages of paper, which reduces the effort on the eyes.

◉ Apple added another feature to that screen, which is the tap on the screen to wake up. All you have to do is press the iPhone screen if it goes into sleep state.

◉ Also, Apple canceled 3D Touch on the iPhone XR, but the touch still gives a Haptic response just like the Home button and the digital crown in the new Apple Watch, and Apple says it has added this reaction for the sake of touch sensitivity. Apple could use it in the strength and length of pressure to give different options such as touch three-dimensional completely, but in fact, we do not know anything more than that about that feature, until the device comes out and we try it.

To be clear, there are a few differences between the XR and the XS other than the screen, but there are also surprising number of similarities between them. And Apple's advanced display technologies make it a good deal to own the XR, especially given its low price.
