DxOMark published a site specialized in evaluating the image quality of smartphones, lenses and cameras for these phones, as it published a review of the iPhone XS camera and evaluated its performance compared to other phones' cameras. So what is the camera arrangement for the iPhone XS Max flagship? What are the most important advantages and disadvantages of photography with that camera?

After evaluating more than 1500 photos, recording 4K videos for two hours, taking pictures in certain conditions, whether in the laboratory or outdoors, using the default camera application and the default settings only, without any modifications to the images.

DxOMark gave the dual-lens iPhone XS Max 105 degrees This result is two points higher than the dual-lens iPhone X also, but four points lower than the Huawei P20 Pro triple-lens phone, which scored 109 points. Consequently, the Apple Max phone won the second place.

The iPhone XS camera has been described as one of the best portable cameras that have been tested. This is not appreciated by the excellent image and video quality in bright light, good image detail, and very high dynamic range, in the words of DxOMark.

The site also praised the improvements in the smart HDR feature that Apple put in its XS phone and said it does a great job in providing more details and shadows for the image. And because the iPhone XS Max contains the A12 Bionic chip, it displays HDR images in real time to see the lens, so what you see you get immediately without any delay as it was previously in the traditional iPhone devices, and this is something unique and there is no In of the competing phones, as mentioned by the DxOMark report.

Still images: advantages and disadvantages

Advantages

◉ Photography is very good in bright lighting as well as indoor environment.

◉ Good details in all conditions.

◉ Vivid colors in most cases.

◉ Fast and accurate auto focus.

◉ Very good isolation of the subject to be photographed and great handling of light points outside the focus of the camera in "bokeh" mode, or what is called blurry photography.

اFor defects

◉ The flash image is often weak.

◉ Noticeable noise in brightness in low light or in high contrast shadows.

Significant noise and a significant lack of image detail in close-up or zoom shots.

Video shooting

As for video shooting, the iPhone XS camera achieved impressive 96 points on the DxOMark scale, thanks to its outstanding performance in bright lighting conditions. Thanks to the A12 Bionic chip and the availability of advanced sensors for the speed of reading the scene, which also works to reduce the effects of the unwanted rotary shutter, i.e. the effects of instability during filming, due to which the image comes out blurred due to rapid movement, to clarify this, see the following clips:

When comparing the iPhone XS to the P20

IPhone XS Max

The iPhone XS Max comes with one of the best mobile cameras that have ever been tested, the camera offers excellent picture and video quality, especially in very high dynamic range and good detail. The autofocus feature and the image stabilization feature work quickly and efficiently, and the camera is very reliable and delivers consistently good results. Thus, the XS photography option is successful in all cases.

P20 phone

What is mentioned on the scene is that the camera on the P20 swept the iPhone well, and this sees it as an undeniable reality, according to the experiments and studies that were established on it. But by scrutinizing, we will find that there are some subtle details that no one pays attention to except the specialist, showing the superiority of the iPhone XS over the P20 or the two phones being equal in some points.

Looking at the exposure, meaning the amount of light incident on the camera sensor, in the pictures, we find that the two phones are equal. In the video, we find the iPhone increases by 8 points. It is known that exposure works to show the details, unless it exceeds its limit, so it is at the expense of color saturation, so you do not find the sky saturated with its blue color, but rather tends to light color and thus the image loses its beauty.

Looking at the colors, we will find that the P20 Pro is one point superior in photos and videos.

The auto focus "Autofocus" appears superior to the iPhone XS by two points for each of the video and photos, and this you see is due to the strength of the Apple A12 Bionic processor and the operating system.

Thus, in the rest of the points, they are all close numbers. In the end, you find the difference only 4 points when looking at the high-resolution specifications of the P20 Pro, including 40 megapixels versus 12 megapixels on the iPhone XS Max. You can imagine if Apple presented a phone with a 20-megapixel camera only, not 40 !!

What do you think of this report? What if Apple provided a 40 mega pixel camera? Let us know in the comments.
