ITunes appeared for the first time on January 2001, 1998, before the iPhone, the iPad and the iPod. But this wasn't the actual iTunes beginning! It started with the SoundJam MP music player released in XNUMX and was compatible with the Mac OS. Apple acquired it and its team two years after its release, developed it and renamed it to iTunes. As everyone knows, iTunes is a free app from Apple that is basically found to play music and videos on computers like any other media player. After that, it included an online store and the ability to sync files with three Apple devices, an iPod, iPhone and iPad. During its long history, Apple sold music, movies, podcasts, and in the past, applications for the iPhone and iPad. Is iTunes still popular, or is it just beginning to disappear and that Apple should provide more productive alternatives to it?

Is the end of iTunes near?

The iTunes program was once very popular, so we used it a lot, whether to download or synchronize applications and save them on this computer other than backing up, updating and restoring the iPhone.

So why drop iTunes?

ITunes has declined in popularity in the past few years for several reasons, including:

Initially, Apple focused on music services, then other services such as TV shows, movies, podcasts, and others were introduced to it. All of that was stuffed into a program that was just a program to play music on computers. And Apple could have offered other separate, more professional apps to display those other services instead of confusing the user in the mess.

If you have updated your iPhone device, in the past you used to use iTunes to set up the new iPhone. Now the new iPhone offers the option to restore from the old iPhone. So you don't need iTunes.

◉ Apple removed application management in 2017, whether downloads, uninstalled, or even made a backup copy of those applications on computers unencrypted, so we no longer need it to manage our applications.

◉ Given the main goal now of using iTunes, which is music services, as well as movies and TV shows, you can buy them directly on devices without the need for iTunes.

◉ Also, looking at the backup via iTunes, you may notice something somewhat frustrating, which is the unreasonable fullness of the storage space on the hard disk. I have noticed that there is more than one backup for my phone on the computer, I don’t know why! So I decided not to make a backup on the computer, and I only import pictures and videos in a special folder, and take a backup copy of the names and notes on iCloud, there are options for that, as for iTunes there are no backup options in it.

◉ It is possible to dispense with iTunes for backup, use of i-Cloud, and purchase of appropriate storage capacities.

Applications that will replace iTunes

Since iTunes has become increasingly complex, Apple is working on providing independent alternatives such as a special music app, a podcast app, a book app; Application for Apple TV, a dedicated application to interact with the iPhone. And this is what one of the developers said, that the iTunes program will not complete its eighteenth year. And that Apple is about to refer him to retirement and issue other alternatives to replace him, not a single alternative.

Developer Steve Troughton-Smith is one of the most famous developers who made amazing previous discoveries of Apple products before their release. He is the first to find the iPhone X icon in a beta update for the operating system. A few weeks later, that information was confirmed. This developer says he has found evidence of three new applications he believes will replace iTunes, which Apple intends to announce at the annual developer conference. And those apps will do what the iTunes app does. These apps are believed to be for music, podcasts, books and iPhones. Apple will likely keep iTunes for other uses.

Do you see that the end of iTunes is really near? And are you still using it? Let us know in the comments.
