Apple is known for its stances that do not budge when there are requests from various governments and authorities, but it seems that the company's position has changed during the recent period and has begun to bow to the requests of government agencies.

According to the BBC, both Crimea and Sevastopol are now appearing on Apple devices as territories belonging to the Russian state.

The image, captured below, shows that the US company has caved in to the pressure of the Putin government and allowed Crimea and Sevastopol to appear as the property of Russia with maps and weather apps.

According to the site, Apple has been in talks with the Russian government for several months, as the iPhone company proposed to offer Crimea as an unspecified territory that is not part of Russia or even Ukraine, but the negotiations were unsuccessful.

Vasily Piskaryov, head of the Security and Anti-Corruption Committee, said that Apple complied with the Russian constitution and fulfilled its obligations, while others criticized the American company’s response to the Russian request, as Russia seized Ukraine's Crimea peninsula.

However, Apple did include Crimea as part of the Russian territory when opening its apps from Russia, but it does not appear to be Russia's property when using the apps from outside the country.

While Apple surrendered, Google has so far not annexed the Crimean peninsula to the Russian or even Ukrainian lands on its maps, but rather displays it as unspecified and does not belong to any country.

Finally, the Russian government had launched legislation that would force technology companies to use pre-installed Russian applications on their devices, otherwise the company that refuses will be banned, and it seems that Apple will acquiesce in this matter.

For its part, the Ukrainian government condemned Apple's action, which prompted the company to issue an official statement in which it said that it takes border problems in a deeper look as it adheres to the laws; Russian law says that Crimea is Russian, and accordingly it appears in Russia. While outside Russia it appears as a contested region.

What do you think about what Apple did? Do you think that it should comply with the requests of the Russian government or it is better to reject the matter, share your opinion with us in the comments.
