After imposing more restrictions on the Internet, the Russian Parliament passed a new law that would prohibit the sale of any devices and phones in the Russian market if they do not have local (Russian) software and applications pre-installed on them.

IPhones may be banned from Russia next year, 2020

The new law, which will come into effect in July next year 2020, provides for obliging technology companies to include Russian software and applications that are pre-installed on the devices they sell, otherwise they will be banned from the Russian market.

The new law applies to companies that manufacture smart phones, including iPhones, as well as electronic devices and smart TVs, and so far there are insufficient details about the quality and what are the local applications that the Russian government wants to add to these devices.

Why this law

Some argue that the process of passing this new law is due to an attempt to support and encourage local technology, as the government believes that there are local alternatives available that can be better than other external applications.

However, others, after the increasing restrictions on the Internet in the country, believe that the Russian government aims with this law to try to spy on users and monitor them through these local applications.

Law sales

Although this is not the first time that the Russian government imposes more laws and restrictions on the Internet and technology, as all companies have complied with previous laws, including Apple, which previously agreed to store user data on Russian servers, but this time the matter is different for the iPhone because The new law conflicts with the integrity of its operating system, which could eventually force Apple to leave the country and prevent the sale of iPhones there. Or Apple's implementation of its philosophy in China is that governments have the right to do anything with their people; As it decided, iCloud servers have placed the "servers" that contain Chinese data inside China and block any application that the Chinese government objects to; Apple may decide to do the same in Russia by allocating a copy of the iPhone to be sold only in Russia and placing the required Russian software on it.

Also, it is assumed that those local applications that will be pre-installed on devices and smartphones will not be thoroughly and strongly examined as it usually happens when trying to upload them to the Apple or Google store, and for this there is an increasing concern by technology companies because these Russian software may include tools Espionage This is why many manufacturers may flee the Russian market.

Do you think that Apple might risk and submit to this new law, or will it refuse to comply with it and leave the Russian market? Share your opinion in the comments.
