Despite the launch of VoLTE technology several years ago, many of them do not know much information about it and may not even know its existence. Simply ask yourself, did you enter the mobile network settings once and wondered what was the VoLTE option and should you turn it on or not? Learn about the technique and its benefits in this article.

what is it?

We usually think of LTE or 4G technology only as the technology for speed and internet connections. And it really started like this, as calls were made over 3G or 2G networks. The device had to switch to one of these two networks upon connection and then return to 4G after termination. With VoLTE (short for Voice over LTE), the phone can make calls using the enhanced 4G networks.
Better call quality and internet

LTE networks can transmit three times the data that 3G networks. So the call quality on VoLTE is much better in terms of voice clarity and speaker's tone recognition. Some describe it as "HD sound". You can also surf the Internet via 4G and make calls at the same time without affecting the browsing quality. But without it, the phone switches to 3G to make calls, and thus the internet surfing speed decreases.
More places

With VoLTE, you can receive calls in all places covered by 2G, 3G and 4G networks. Without it, you cannot receive calls only in places covered by 4G. You might think this is rare. But it can happen in reality. As the frequencies used by companies for 4G technology reach far beyond the old technologies and can reach places that were not covered before.
Better battery life

Because phones without VoLTE have to search for 3G or 2G networks with no calls, and then switch back to 4G again when the call ends. This constant search for networks and changing the received frequencies through the phone antenna consumes the battery. It can be provided by keeping VoLTE operational.
Works with Wi-Fi calling

Do you remember when Apple made calls over Wi-Fi? It is a technology that allows the use of Wi-Fi networks to improve the transmission of phone calls (not available in all countries). But with VoLTE technology, you can switch between it and Wi-Fi calls easily and automatically without disturbing the signal or interrupting the call if one of the two signals is weak.
Video calls!

With VoLTE networks, you can theoretically make video calls using the regular network as well as voice calls. Without the need to use internet data and apps like Skype or FaceTime. But for some reason, telecom companies and phone manufacturers haven't yet adopted this technology. They may depend on our transition to internet technology and the need to not change the usual.
Is it available with all networks?

I'm afraid not. Especially in the Arab world. However, large well-known networks provide it in several countries such as Etisalat, Vodafone, du, STC and many others.
How do you make sure it works?

Go to Settings -> Cellular -> Cellular Data Options -> Voice and Data -> There you find the VoLTE option at the bottom.
If you are not working on your service provider, the iPhone will give you a message informing you that it is not compatible with the operator.
