The iOS 15 update will support the same iPhone devices that were compatible with iOS 14, i.e. iPhone 6s for 2015 and newer! But it turns out that there are some things in the next update that older devices won't be able to deal with, get to know them.

Apple won't slow down older devices without good reasonOf course, these devices will be less efficient over time given the obsolescence of battery life and the emergence of features that require advanced processing power with high efficiency that directly supports modern features.

Apple insists on supporting updates for old devices all these years and bears the burden of updates problems on all these devices, so it could have stopped them at least for devices that have been more than two years old and drop support from them to push users to upgrade, but Apple wants to appear in the dress of the strongest competitor that does not No one else dares to bear such a burden, as you will find in Android devices only sporadic security updates and at different times, without any new features.

So Apple does everything it can to bring its latest features to older devices, but sometimes some of them aren't fully supported.

When Apple releases this year's iOS 15 update this September, users of almost every iPhone model released in the past six years will still be able to enjoy With all the great features provided by Apple in it. Including widgets, new notification control features, SharePlay, messaging and privacy improvements, new Spotlight search improvements, and more.

Unfortunately, there are some features that old iPhone processors can't handle, and we'll find those features only work starting with the A12 Bionic chip found in iPhone XS and later models.

Features in the iOS 15 update only work on iPhone XS models or later

If you are using an old iPhone, you will not be able to use these features:

◉ Portrait mode in FaceTime, although you can take portrait photos with iPhone 7 or later, it requires more processing power to do so with Live Video in FaceTime.

◉ Spatial Audio in FaceTime Real-time audio processing seems to be another challenge for older A-series chips, so you will only get spatial audio in FaceTime if you are using a device with an A12 chip or later, although spatial audio is supported Also on iPhone 7.

◉ Walking Directions in Maps Apple is adding augmented reality step-by-step walking directions to its maps. Google Maps has introduced a similar Live View feature since 2019 that works on any iPhone model that supports the ARKit package, and it's clear that Apple's version of this feature won't work well enough on older chips.

◉ Live Text in Photos The new Live Text feature in iOS 15 is pretty cool, but since text recognition is done entirely on your iPhone, it's no surprise that it requires a fairly powerful modern CPU.

◉ Visual Image Search Similar to live text, searching for recognized objects and scenes in images in real time is computationally intensive and requires processing power as well.

◉ Interactive Globe and XNUMXD City Experience in Maps, Apple is adding more detailed XNUMXD rendering to the maps, including an interactive globe to explore the world and zoom in on specific areas, in addition to the details of the many cities, all of this will also not be supported in older devices as well An Intel Mac won't get these features either.

◉ Digital keys in the wallet, Apple says these keys require iPhone XS and later, and did not specifically specify the A12 chip, suggesting that this may have something to do with NFC or the Secure Enclave. Either way, your old iPhones won't be able to store your car keys, house keys, or hotel keys. This is no surprise, as the car key feature had the same requirements when it debuted last year in iOS 13.6.

◉ Animated wallpapers in weather app The weather app is getting some nice design changes overall, but a few features will be customized for newer devices. The new animated wallpapers are not just videos, they are designed to accurately reflect the position of the sun, clouds and precipitation, add some sounds and more.

◉ Siri speech processing and customization on the device The iOS 15 update brings one of the biggest improvements to Siri in years, such as the ability to recognize, personalize, and intelligently interact directly on Apple devices without an internet connection.

It's also worth noting that some of these limitations aren't entirely new to the iOS 15 update, as Apple has limited some features to certain devices but not others. For example, when Apple introduced a new QuickTake video feature in iOS 13 two years ago, it was limited to iPhone 11 models at the time. In iOS 14, QuickTake was extended to the iPhone XS and XR, but in the iOS 15 update, this will not happen. So, the new feature, which is the ability to zoom while shooting QuickTake videos, will not work on older iPhone models either.

There are also some iOS 15 features that will be exclusive to the iPhone 12 suite. Two of them are Enhanced Connectivity Limit on 5G and Prefer 5G over Wi-Fi These will not work on non 5G devices. It also appears that Apple is using the power of the A14 chip to improve panoramic shots, reduce geometric distortion, better handle moving subjects, and reduce image noise.

Do you think Apple is right not to enable all iOS 15 update features on all iOS supported devices? Or is this a new ploy to push the user to upgrade? Tell us in the comments below.
