Thieves hide the AirTag somewhere on your vehicle and then track it down for theft at a more convenient time or place. The AirTag may be hidden behind the gas cap or under the car.
Officers have investigated five incidents since September in which suspects used AirTags to help steal vehicles.
The AirTag is placed in areas out of view of the target vehicles when they are parked in public places such as shopping malls or public parking lots.
The thieves then track the targeted vehicles to the victim's home, where they are stolen from the driveway.
