The screenshot tool built into the iPhone has many cool tricks. From turning hand-drawn squiggly lines into geometric shapes, to hiding sensitive information, and more. Here's how to get the most out of the iPhone screenshot tool.
Convert hand-drawn lines into geometric shapes
Once you take a screenshot on the iPhone, you can use the pen tool to annotate it. And if you use the pen to draw a basic geometric shape, and it is chaotic, such as a circle, a triangle, or a pentagon, you can wait for a moment, and the iPhone will transform it into a more beautiful and symmetrical geometric shape.
A better way to hide sensitive information
The next time you take a screenshot with sensitive information, like phone numbers, addresses, or something else, you won't have to scribble on it with pen, pencil, or highlighters. It is difficult to obliterate things well using these techniques, and it is possible that one can read the blurred part in any way, let alone look bad.
Instead, switch to the rectangle tool and draw an opaque shape over the sensitive information. To do that:
Take a screenshot, tap the pen icon, tap the + button in the bottom corner, and check the box. This will add a transparent rectangle to your screenshot.
To make it opaque, click the square with a circle icon at the bottom.
This will open a small popup with four options, you can select the first option from the left - an opaque square icon.
You can now move the shape around the screen and hide whatever you want to hide. It looks neater, and hides everything more effectively.
Easily match colors with the color tool
When you're hiding information from a screenshot with the opaque rectangle, you might want to go a step further by matching the rectangle's color to the background color to make it look like nothing has been removed from it. To do this:
You can use the color tool. After scribbling on the screenshot or after drawing a shape, tap the icon with a multicolored circle next to the + button at the bottom.
This will open the color palette, and to match the colors, click on the eyedropper icon at the top left, next to the colors.
You will see a large magnifier on the screen, drag this magnifier to where you want to choose the color and leave it when you are ready.
This color will match the background and allow you to create much neater screenshots.
Save color presets for faster access
When you use the eyedropper tool to bring out the perfect color, you can save it for future use. To do this:
Take a screenshot, and tap the pen icon at the top.
Then tap the icon with a multicolored circle next to the + button at the bottom to open the color palette.
Use the eyedropper tool to find the perfect color or choose a color from the color palette.
You can then hit the + button at the bottom to save it as a preset so you can use the same color on your other screenshots.
Use the ruler tool to draw precise lines and shapes
The Ruler tool is probably the least used of them all to help you draw lines, really straight. You can also place the ruler on any part of the screenshot and draw the exposed side, making it an easy tool for coloring as well.
Add text or comment
The screenshot tool also lets you quickly add a caption or description to an image, making it easy to find your screenshot from the Photos app. To do this:
Take a screenshot, and tap the pen icon at the top.
Then the + button at the bottom, and select Description to add a caption to the image.
Similarly, if you select the Text tool just below the description, you will be able to type text on the screenshot.
Add signature to screenshots
Take a screenshot, and tap the pen icon.
Then press the + button at the bottom.
Now select Signature from the Tools menu, draw your signature on the screen, and it will appear on the screenshot.
Use the opacity and transparency tool to adjust the background
If you have drawn some beautiful shapes on your screenshot and want those shapes to stand out more than the background, use the opacity tool.
Click the pen icon at the top of the screen after taking a screenshot.
Tap the + button at the bottom, and select Opacity.
At the bottom, you can move the opacity indicator to the right to make the background more opaque or to the left to make it more transparent.
Quickly select text within a screenshot
If you have updated to iOS 15, you will be able to quickly select all the text inside the screenshot.
Take a screenshot and make sure the pen icon is not selected at the top, the drawing tools will not be visible at the bottom of the screen.
Click the scan box icon in the lower right corner of the screen, and the iPhone will select all the text in the screenshot, which you can then select.

But these features have been available to me in Android since 4 years
These features have been on the iPhone for XNUMX years, the author only explained them to the readers
Excellent article, I use the screenshot a lot and this trick is beautiful and practical, especially the ruler, I was not aware of its existence.
Useful article All new information for me, you can also use only the required part of the screenshot using the outline of the screenshot and this will save only the required part of the screenshot and thus save storage space,
Thank you for your efforts
Thank you, brother. I wish you would give us a solution to the problem of sending a video from an iPhone to an Android phone, or vice versa, ruining everything and quality. Thank you.
