Apple received 2541 patents in the US last year, surpassing only six other companies, according to reports from IFI Claims, a global patent database.

In its ranking of the top 50 US patentees in 2021, IFI data shows that Apple received 250 fewer patents in 2021 compared to the previous year, a decrease of 9%. However, Apple moved up one place in the rankings in 2021.

The 2021 IFI Claims Global Rankings reveal the world's largest patent holders by looking at all the patents companies currently own. In these rankings, Apple is ranked 37th, with 20491 active patents.

Samsung is currently the world leader in active patents, with a total of 90416.

Microsoft, LG, Sony, Intel, and Qualcomm also outperformed Apple in terms of active global patents.
