All apps on your iPhone usually need your permission to access some or all of your iPhone's data, and some will ask to access your contacts and photos while or use your location and even track your activity to display ads targeted or based on your interests. Here are some tips for adjusting the permissions of these apps if you want to keep a great deal of privacy and fear that it will be violated by those apps.

How can the application access your iPhone data?

The quick answer to this question is that you've given it permission to access that data, and an easy way to see what type of data an app or game will use and collect is to go to the App Store, select an app or game, and then scroll down to the sections used to track you and associated data.

The app will most likely ask for other permissions once it's installed, but this way, you'll be able to see what kind of data the app will be using before you install it.

See how apps use permissions

A fairly new feature on the iPhone is that you can see how apps use the permissions you've given them. This feature is called the App Privacy Report, and you'll need at least iOS 15.2 or later to use it. Here's how:

◉ Open Settings.

◉ Scroll down and tap Privacy.

◉ Select Application Privacy Report.

◉ You will be able to see which apps you have used the most in the past few days, and you can click on each app to find out more information, such as which domains the app has connected to, and websites visited.

◉ And if you don't want to get this information, you can scroll down and tap on "Turn off app privacy report", this will disable the feature and delete all existing data.

Change app permissions

It is very easy to control the permissions of your apps from your iPhone, you can quickly grant or deny access to your data with a simple click. All you have to do is follow these steps:

◉ Open Settings.

◉ Scroll down and tap Privacy.

◉ You will see a list of categories of information that each app can use, and you can click on any of them like calendar, camera or microphone and see a list of apps that have access to that category. You can disable any app from the list to deny access to it.

◉ You can also go to each installed app and change its permissions individually, but this may take a little longer.

disable location service

Location services is a feature that apps use to know your location, and of course, not all apps and games need to know this information, so you can quickly change an app's settings or disable location services entirely.

◉ Open Settings.

◉ Scroll down and select Privacy.

◉ Click on Location Services.

◉ Click on any application you want.

◉ Choose how you want to allow access to the site. You can tap Never if you don't want to share your location with this app.

◉ There are quite a few options you can choose, so if you think the app needs to know your location, you can use the “while in use” option, so that the app can only access your location when you open it.

◉ You can also go further and disable the exact location so the app doesn't know your exact location all the time.

Prevent apps from tracking you

Another new feature your iPhone has is the ability to ask apps not to track your activity.

Usually, apps will track your activity to show you better ads or create a profile for you based on what the app thinks you are interested in. The worry is that these apps can track you if you use other apps belonging to the same company. So, for example, Facebook can track your activity while using WhatsApp or Instagram.

The good thing, especially in the iOS 15 update, is that you can ask apps not to track you, although it's not 100% effective. By default, the app or game should ask if you don't want it to track you the first time you open it, but if you skipped this part, you can always do so by following these steps:

◉ Open Settings.

◉ Scroll down and select Privacy.

◉ Open the trace.

◉ Disable tracking on any app you want.

◉ You can also disable Allow apps to request tracking of you, so that this popup message will not bother you again.

Remember that this feature does not work perfectly. This often blocks apps' permission to track, but iPhone and Apple can't control whether app developers use other ways to track you. It's true that this doesn't happen all the time, but that's why you have to be careful about what you install on your iPhone.

Ultimately you have to control what your apps do and what we mentioned is all you need to know about your apps permissions. You can now have better control over what your apps do with the data they decide to share, or stop sharing any data entirely.
