A former employee claims that Facebook applications deliberately drain the iPhone battery

The issue of battery drain still haunts many users, so that we have to dispense with some features in favor of the battery, and Apple has made a great effort in managing battery power, such as an improved low power mode, a dark mode, and a battery health section and detecting which applications are draining their energy , And you may have noticed that while using some applications, the battery is drained quickly, especially the Facebook and Messenger applications, and this is what was mentioned by a former data employee in the company Meta or Facebook previously, that the company may deliberately drain the batteries of the iPhone and Android secretly as part of its internal tests.

In an interview with the New York Post, George Hayward claimed he was fired last November for refusing to participate in what is known as “negative testing” while working on the Messenger app.

A negative test is a way to test an application and see if it can properly handle wrong data being entered in places it is not intended to. For example, if the user tries to type a character in a field that requires numeric input, the message “Invalid data type, please enter a number” message will be displayed.

According to George Hayward, the "negative testing" technique enables Internet companies to "surreptitiously" drain a phone's battery in the name of testing features or dealing with problems, such as how fast an app launches or how an image loads, and so on. He stated that he had filed a lawsuit in the Manhattan Federal Court regarding this matter against Mita, but he later withdrew the lawsuit due to the arbitration clause. ”

As mentioned site QA SourceNegative testing allows developers to compare expected output with incorrect output by revealing how the application responds to invalid data.

Hayward also says that this practice "could harm someone" by draining the battery without warning. He did not say how many people were affected by this negative test.

He stated that he was given an internal training document titled, “How to Conduct Informed Negative Tests,” which included examples of battery drain experiments being conducted, and then claimed he was fired after three years working with the company for refusing to participate in these tests.

Facebook apps have long been accused of causing iPhone battery drain, to the point that in 2020, it was reported on the popular Reddit site, that the Facebook Messenger app has outperformed the PUBG game in incredibly draining battery.

Mita applications are famous and indispensable applications, so does Mita intentionally harm Apple because of the war between them? Or could this be pure slander from this employee due to his dismissal from work? Tell us in the comments.

I did not understand from the article what is the goal, is it the test, or the goal is to drain the battery? And why?

Battery drain depends on how long you work on an app.
How is it possible, for example, to spend long hours on some applications and wait for the battery charge to stabilize?
If you use the phone extensively on social media and applications, of course the battery will not last long, even if it is a million mAh.

I do not use any of the applications of the Facebook company except WhatsApp and because of work, and I cannot trust its applications. As for draining the battery, Google applications exhaust it, and it is also greedy in devouring data

The article is correct. Facebook, Messenger, and YouTube are the basis for draining the battery. They drain 54% of the battery.

YouTube consumes 22%, so I took it from my iPhone and put it on my Android phone, my second phone

Messenger consumes only 4%, for your information, I use it relatively often
Likewise, Facebook did not see a strong battery consumption when using it

If Apple hadn't tuned the next iPhone, which is 15, and made drastic changes that deserve an upgrade, I think that its best productivity would be the iPhone 13 Pro only 😂
