5 new AirDrop features in iOS 17

Since its debut in iOS 7The AirDrop feature has gained immense popularity among iPhone users as a preferred way to quickly share various files such as photos, videos, and documents with nearby Apple devices easily. Despite its wide popularity, it remained relatively unmodified throughout this period. However, Apple finally took AirDrop to the next level by introducing several new features that enhance its capabilities, making it more powerful and efficient than ever before. In the iOS 17 update, Apple added five new features to AirDrop, get to know them.

NameDrop

It is a new feature in the iOS 17 update that allows you to share and exchange your contact details with another person as soon as you bring your iPhone close to the other person's iPhone or smart watch, instead of typing the details manually, each brings their device closer, and contact stickers appear Each person's contact, and they can then select the numbers and email addresses in their contact card that they want to share.

New AirDrop gesture for sharing content

Using the same proximity gesture that works with NameDrop also allows users to share content such as photos and files. Instead of manually selecting the person from the Shares window and choosing AirDrop, users can simply bring their iPhones close together, and the transfer will automatically begin via AirDrop. This means that you do not have to go through the process of manually choosing a person; Devices recognize their proximity, and seamlessly initiate the transfer.

Continue AirDrop online

The way AirDrop works currently, you have to stay close to the other person's device for any transfer to complete, and if you leave AirDrop range, the transfer will fail, and the content won't be shared. This is especially frustrating when sending or receiving many large files.

But in iOS 17, you'll be able to continue AirDrop online. This means you can start an AirDrop transfer with someone, then leave without losing connection. The content you share with someone will continue to be transmitted securely and in full quality over the Internet. The only requirement is that you and the recipient be signed in to iCloud.

SharePlay on AirDrop

You can also use two iPhones near each other to start a shared activity via SharePlay. This allows both people to listen to audio or watch video together. And with the new SharePlay API, third-party app developers can make their apps support the proximity gesture, allowing you to share the same game with others or watch the same broadcast using separate devices.

Camouflage explicit images

Previously, AirDrop showed previews of shared content on the recipient's device without their consent, which sometimes resulted in explicit, unwanted images. This feature prevents images containing nudity or sensitive content from being shown, but they can be viewed by pressing the “Show” button. Explicit images are detected on the device itself using the power of the neural engine and machine learning, ensuring complete privacy.

What do you think of the new AirDrop features? Would you like to see another feature? Tell us in the comments.

I remember iOS 5 and 7, the size of the iOS was 500 MB and the menu format was easy. I was amazed at the speed of synchronization between the device settings. Now I have 3 Apple devices. iMessage is not synchronized between the iPhone and iPad, and the iPads are not synchronized with the iPhone. Only the Notes application is good at synchronization, but the contacts do not exist. They do not appear. I hope to write an article about synchronization. As for AirDrop, it seems that it depends on IR NFC in addition to Bluetooth. When will the iOS 7 icons change? It has been 10 years and the Safari icons, phone, settings, etc. have not changed.

Hello Arkan! 🤗 You seem to remember the good old days with iOS 5 and 7 fondly. As for the synchronization between your three devices, I will try to prepare an article on this topic soon, God willing. 😊 Regarding AirDrop technology, it does not rely on IR NFC, but rather uses Wi-Fi and Bluetooth to work. As for changing icons in iOS 7, Apple has made some updates over the years, but we may see bigger updates in the future. 📱🔄

Greetings, what is the interactive widget and how does it work? I do not see this feature in the iPhone XNUMX Pro, as well as the AirPlay. Is it a program that I download from the App Store, or is it integrated into the new system? I do not know where it is activated.

Welcome, Fares Al-Janabi! 😊 Let's start by answering your question about our interactive widget. There is no such thing as an “interactive widget” on the iPhone 12 Pro or other iPhones. You probably mean "widgets", and this feature is available in iOS 14 and later.

As for AirPlay, it's built into iOS and doesn't need to download software from the App Store. To enable AirPlay, swipe down from the top of the screen to bring up Control Center, then tap the AirPlay icon (which appears as three connected triangles) and select a receiver such as Apple TV.

I hope this information is useful! 👍

Why can't iPhone send and receive files via Bluetooth from Android device?

Hi Ibrahim 😊! iPhone does not allow sending and receiving files via Bluetooth with Android devices because Apple uses its AirDrop technology to share files between its devices only. This technology is safer and faster than Bluetooth, but it is not compatible with non-Apple devices. 📲🚫

Despite the simplicity of the ios17 update and the lack of features that it brought, it has very nice features and seems to work efficiently! The most doughy thing in this update is Siri in Arabic. It now works without the Internet in executing simple internal commands. I also liked the interactive widget.

Hello Nasser Al-Ziyadi! 😄 I totally agree with you, the iOS 17 update comes with beautiful features and high efficiency. Siri in Arabic without Internet is a great evolution of simple internal commands, and the interactive widget adds an attractive touch to the home screen. Enjoy the update and thanks for your feedback! 📱🚀
