Apple introduced several new features to iOS, iPadOS, macOS, watchOS, and even tvOS this year. TI come to the fore features Such as NameDrop, StandBy, Journal, Live Stickers, naming pets in photos, ability to blur nude photos, and more.

Despite the list of many features, Apple did not tell us everything, but now that the beta version of the iOS 17 update has been released, some hidden features have been discovered, get to know them.

Use your old passcode for 72 hours after changing it

This is a new feature in the iOS 17 update that allows you to use the old passcode for 72 hours after changing it, in case you forgot the new one. This feature increases the security of your data, as your device will be automatically erased after ten failed attempts to enter the new code. But if you remember the old code, you can use it to unlock your device and reset the new code. This feature is useful for people who change passcodes regularly, or who use and forget complex passcodes.

Now, if you have forgotten your passcode, after a few failed attempts, you can click on “Forgot Passcode” at the bottom and click on Passcode Reset.

Enter the passcode you remember, and you will have the option to create a new one. You are allowed to login in the same way to make it your current password.

Of course, this could be a security risk if you change your passcode to keep someone away from your phone. After changing your passcode in Settings -> FaceID & Passcode or Settings > Face ID & Passcode, scroll down and tap Expire Previous Passcode Now to prevent the old code from unlocking your phone.

All planets on astronomy lock screen

This is a new feature in iOS 17 that allows you to choose a dynamic wallpaper for the lock screen that displays cool images of Earth, the moon, and the solar system. This wallpaper adapts to your device's current geographic location and time of day, and accurately shows the movement of celestial bodies. You can choose from five different background options, including the Earth from far or close up, the Moon as well, and the entire solar system.

And you have more choices than the Earth, the Moon, and the Solar System. You can add any planet in the solar system.

Grocery lists and multi-column reminders

You can use the reminders as a smart shopping list and share it with the wife or parents, so that you can add and check things from the list, and organize your shopping lists better.

Through the feature, you can press the three dots (⋯) and click Show List Info and set the list type to Groceries. Automatically categorize your shopping list into categories such as beverages, vegetables, meats, cheeses, spices, breads, etc. You can still click and drag items into different categories if something goes wrong.

As for the column view, this allows you to view the sections horizontally, making it easier for you to see everything in one glance. These features make the Reminders app more powerful and easy to use.

Send an audio signal from the iPhone to the Apple Watch and vice versa

This is a new feature that allows you to send an audio signal to the Apple Watch from the control center on the iPhone, and vice versa. They are useful for finding your device in case you lose it or forget it somewhere. To use this feature:

◉ To send an audio signal to the Apple Watch from the iPhone, you must first add the Ping My Watch button to the Control Center. Go to Settings, then Control Center and tap the + sign next to Ping My Watch to add it to Control Center.

Next from the Control Center press the Ping My Watch button (the Apple watch icon) and you should hear a beep coming from the Apple Watch. If the clock is in silent mode, you will also see a blinking light. And if you want to turn on the clock light even in sound mode, press and hold the same button.

◉ To send an audio signal to the iPhone from the Apple Watch, through the watch control center, press the iPhone icon. Then you will hear a voice coming out of the iPhone. And if it's in silent mode, you'll see a blinking light as well.

Change settings from Spotlight search

If you know the name of a setting, but can't remember where it is in Settings, you can search for it from the Home screen, with Spotlight Search and access it quickly and easily.

◉ In the search field, type a word related to the setting you want to change, such as Wi-Fi, “Bluetooth,” “Notifications,” or something else.

◉ You will see search results from various applications and websites. Find the result that contains the Settings icon and tap on it. You will be taken to the desired setting where you can adjust it.

◉ At the moment, this feature is not fully functional, some settings still do not work, because it is still in the beta version, and more are being added successively.

Any image matches the lock screen and no cropping is required

A new feature in the iOS 17 update solves the problem of compatibility of images with the lock screen. The images you take with the iPhone camera have an aspect ratio of 12:9, meaning that the width of the image is 12 units and its height is 9 units. But modern iPhone screens have a width-to-height ratio of 13:6, meaning that the width of the screen is equal to 13 units and its height is equal to 6 units. This means that the screen is taller and narrower than the image. In addition, the clock at the top of the lock screen occupies a third of the space, which reduces the space left to display the image. So, if you didn't specifically take a photo to use as your lock screen wallpaper, you might have a great photo that just doesn't fit in the space available.

Now, you can drag any image down the top of the screen. Your phone will intelligently fill and blur the top so it looks natural. This feature makes the lock screen wallpaper more beautiful and suitable.

Find out about yesterday's weather and the phases of the moon

The Weather app has received some new additions. One such feature allows users to compare the current day's weather with the previous day's data. By clicking on any section or information item, the timetable will be displayed at the top of the screen and the weather conditions from the previous day will be displayed.

In addition, there is a new section within the app that displays the phases of the moon, providing information about its brightness and the timing of its next full moon. There are more details, such as the current distance from Earth and the phase calendar.

A phase calendar, referring to the phase of the moon, is a calendar that displays the different phases of the moon over a certain period of time. Provides information about when the moon transitions from one phase to another, such as from new moon to crescent moon, first quarter moon, full moon, etc.

A draggable and scrollable timeline allows users to visualize moon appearances with hour-by-hour accuracy in the future, though the reason for including this feature is not clear.

What do you think of these features? Did you know it existed? Tell us in the comments.
