When Apple introduced Its first smart watch In 2014, many were not quite sure what it was for, and what potential it could offer. At first, Apple emphasized features such as fitness tracking and the ability to share clicks, drawings, and heartbeats with friends, things that users didn't really need. Over time, users and third-party developers helped Apple understand what they wanted from a smartwatch, and the company took those ideas into account. Nowadays, the Apple Watch has evolved into a mature, flexible product, and has become so versatile that you may not be aware of some of its most valuable functions. In this article, we will share with you some very important functions of the Apple Watch.
play games
Despite the small screen size of the Apple Watch screen, it can still support some interesting games; You just have to choose suitable games for it, you could try Deep Golf.
And the Lifeline game:
Using ChatGPT on the Apple Watch
If you are using the popular ChatGPT chatbot, you can use your Apple Watch to chat with ChatGPT and search for explanations, suggestions, troubleshooting, and more. You can use apps like Petey, but it's not free.
Simply click on the Ask Me Anything button and enter your query, or use the dictation feature to save your typing effort.
Control your Apple Watch using hand gestures in the air
Usually, the watch is started by tapping on the screen and buttons. However, in certain cases, it may be necessary to operate the Apple Watch using the hand on which it is worn. AssistiveTouch allows this function.
To enable this feature, open the watch app on the paired iPhone. As well as through the settings on the Apple Watch itself, but this may be more difficult. Under the My Watch tab, select Accessibility and scroll down until you find AssistiveTouch and turn it on.
By default, hand gestures are assigned specific functions. For example, making a pinch gesture with the hand you're wearing the watch will move forward in menus, while a double-tap will move backwards. A fist will simulate a click, and a double-tap will open a menu of actions, which may take some getting used to. It should be noted that the whole process requires practice, but the actions assigned to each gesture can be customized according to personal preferences.
Knowing the time without looking at the watch
If, for any reason, you cannot check the time on your Apple Watch by sight, there is a feature called Speak Time that can help. To activate it, go to Settings on your watch, go to the Clock section, scroll down until you find the Speak Time option, and turn it on. You can also set it up through the Clock app on the iPhone associated with going to the Clock section and enabling Speak Time. Once enabled, just place two fingers on the watch face for a brief moment, and it will audibly announce the current time.
On the other hand, if you prefer to know the time without relying on visual cues, you can use Taptic Time. This feature allows the Apple Watch to provide time indications through haptic feedback. To activate Taptic Time, you can go to the Clock app, go to the Clock section, and then select Taptic Time. You can go into your Apple Watch settings and follow a similar path.
Various options are available, but the Digits format is often the simplest. For example, one long click, followed by two short clicks, followed by three long clicks, then six short clicks to indicate the time is 12:36.
Reply quickly to messages
While the Apple Watch may not be the most convenient device for writing long messages, watchOS has smart features to make communication easier. When you receive a message notification on your watch or directly open the Messages app, you can tap on it to easily access the reply option.
The easiest way is to choose from a list of pre-written responses, such as “Yes,” “No,” or “May I call you back later?” With just one click, you can send the canned response to the recipient. If you find these predefined responses too limiting, you have the option to create your own. Simply open the Watch app on the paired iPhone, go to the Messages section, select “Default Responses,” and then you can customize and add your own set of responses to suit your needs.
If you prefer a more automatic approach, you have the option to type a reply on your Apple Watch using the onscreen keyboard. However, we suggest using the Scribble keyboard instead by swiping up and selecting it. With the Scribble keyboard, you can type one letter at a time using the entire screen, which is much easier than trying to hit small keys. Instead, the best option of all is to tap the dictate button and speak out loud, allowing the watch to transcribe your words for you.
Make the watch battery last longer
Many people may not realize that the Apple Watch has a low power mode feature, this is not the Power Reserve feature, which greatly limits the functions of the watch. In the 9 update of watchOS 2022, Low Power Mode was added as a milder option to conserve battery life.
To activate Low Power Mode on your Apple Watch, in Control Center, tap on the battery percentage. Below the battery information, you will find the Low Power Mode option. It should be noted that in watchOS 10, Control Center can be accessed by pressing the side button on the watch instead of swiping up.
By enabling Low Power Mode, some features and settings on your Apple Watch will be tweaked to improve battery life and make it last longer. This can help you use your watch longer when the battery is running low.
Take better pictures on the iPhone
In certain situations, it may be difficult or impossible to take a photo because the camera needs to be positioned out of reach of the person taking the photo. For example, when you want to take a group photo in which they all appear, using the Apple Watch helps a lot here.
In the past, we used timers to solve this problem, but there may be problems due to haste and stress, but the Apple Watch offers a better solution.
By opening the Camera Remote app on the Apple Watch, it also opens the Camera app on the paired iPhone. This means that whatever your iPhone camera can see, you can now see it on your watch. You can even switch between the front and back camera and adjust some settings on the watch. Once everything is set up, you can activate the three-second timer, and take the perfect shot without any rush or stress.

The functions of the Apple Watch are distinct and unique from the rest of the competitors, there is no dispute, but the problem of the battery limits many of its features. The difficult equation is how to include these features with a battery that lasts at least a week
Welcome, Moataz 🤗! I totally agree with you, the battery is the main hurdle of the Apple Watch. But we will not forget that Apple is always in the process of development and innovation, it is possible that in the near future we will witness new solutions to the battery problem. Apple always surprises us with its innovations. 😄🍏🔋
Thanks for the wonderful article
Excellent article, thank you
The eternal problem with the Apple Watch is still the battery.
I wish it would learn from the Huawei watch.
Welcome, Salman 🙌🏼! The battery in the Apple Watch is always up for debate, right? But let's not forget that Apple is making great efforts to improve battery performance in every new version. However, innovation and learning from others is always open to it, even from Huawei! 😄🍏⌚️💡
