What's new in AirPlay in iOS 17

In every iOS update, Apple improves almost all iPhone apps and features, including AirPlay, which is a wireless communications technology that enables users to stream music and video content from iPhones, iPads, and Macs to different devices such as a HomePod and a TV. Apple TV, third-party speakers, smart TVs, set-top boxes, receivers, and more. In this article, we focus on the updates that affected AirPlay in an update iOS 17These improvements will also be available in iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma.

AirPlay preferences

In iOS 17, the AirPlay interface has seen significant improvements, resulting in a smarter and more efficient user experience. For example, if you frequently use AirPlay from your iPhone to the Apple TV in your living room, iOS 17 will notice this behavior and prioritize Apple TV at the top of your list of AirPlay devices, over other AirPlay devices in your home.

iOS 17 provides proactive suggestions for AirPlay connections based on your previous use. It predicts your preferences and offers relevant options.

The AirPlay interface now prioritizes devices based on their physical proximity to you. The devices closest to you will be listed first, making it easier to select them for AirPlay.

, iOS 17 includes clearer visual indicators that show which device is currently receiving AirPlay content and whether AirPlay is active. This helps you to understand the status of your AirPlay connections more easily.

All of these improvements are intended to improve the user experience when using AirPlay on iOS 17. These same features are also available in iPadOS 17 and macOS Sonoma, ensuring a consistent AirPlay experience across all Apple devices.

Automatic AirPlay

In iOS 17, Automatic AirPlay, which was initially only available for TVs in iOS 16, has been extended to speakers as well. Now, users can choose to enable this feature on their iPhone, allowing the device to automatically connect to nearby speakers and TVs whenever they play content from the apps they use most with AirPlay. Prior to iOS 17, this setting was only limited to TVs that supported AirPlay. With this expansion, users get to experience seamless usage on a wider range of devices without the need for manual connections.

AirPlay in hotel rooms

Apple works together with hotel chains and TV manufacturers to offer smart TVs in hotels. These smart TVs will have AirPlay support, which allows hotel guests to easily stream content from their Apple devices, such as iPhones and iPads, directly to the TV in their hotel room.

This AirPlay feature offers several benefits to hotel guests. First, it eliminates the need for guests to log into their streaming accounts on shared hotel TVs, ensuring a more secure and private viewing experience. Guests can enjoy their favorite TV shows and movies without worrying about others accessing their account information.

IHG Hotels & Resorts will be the first hotel company to adopt this technology and offer AirPlay in their hotels. This means that guests staying in will have the opportunity to take advantage of the convenient content sharing option during their stay.

Furthermore, LG plans to launch AirPlay-compatible smart TVs specifically designed for use in hotels. This move ensures that hotels can provide the latest entertainment options for their guests with the seamless integration of Apple devices and hotel room TVs.

In short, the collaboration between Apple, hotel chains, and TV manufacturers like LG will lead to smart TVs with AirPlay functionality in hotels. Guests will be able to enjoy their content from their Apple devices on the hotel room TV without having to log into the account, enhancing their overall experience during their stay.

Thanks for the article. But I noticed that the iPhone Islam app has become not smooth when browsing. I mean it has become as if the swipe up and down is stuck. It has become not smooth. Please provide a solution. Thank you. I deleted the app and returned it, but to no avail. I have an iPhone 14 Pro Max.
