Despite the limited initial launch, Apple is steadily working on improving it Always-on display feature on the iPhone screen Through successive system updates. After the feature was launched, there was not a lot of flexibility to customize it, and the first customizations were with an update iOS 16.2. Users were allowed to turn off colored backgrounds and notifications, and with updates, the feature began to contain several customizations, including allowing the ability to schedule/or perform an automatic procedure when the always-on display feature is enabled through focus filters. The benefit of turning on such automatic actions is to worry about the battery draining quickly in the first place, and to achieve a balance between enjoying its benefits, managing battery consumption more effectively, and allocating time to enable the feature and control its behavior. Whether you have an iPhone 14 Pro or iPhone 15 Pro or have never customized your screen before, this guide guides you on how to automate Always-On Display, regardless of your iPhone model.
How to set up an automatic always-on-display control action using focus filters
◉ First you need to update to iOS 16.4 or later.
◉ Go to Settings, then choose Focus, then choose an existing focus or create a new focus through the + sign at the top. Here we will choose Work focus.
◉ Swipe down, and under Focus Filters, click Add Filter (see image below).
◉ At the bottom, choose the new option “Always On Display.”
◉ The default setting will be On, then click “Add” in the top corner.
◉ For automatic control, make sure to turn on Smart Activation or set a schedule for the focus you added to permanent mode (just above the focus filters).
◉ You can also link the always-on display on or off filter to different lock screens by linking it to focus mode (long press on lock screen then tap focus).
◉ Switch to another focus mode and set Always-on Display mode to Off to make automatic control of the feature.
Always-on display shortcuts
You can also set up always-on display control through the Shortcuts app in addition to Siri support:
◉ Open the Shortcuts application.
◉ Click on the + sign in the upper corner.
◉ Choose Add Action.
◉ Or use search to find “Set Always On Display”.
◉ Click on the word Turn or Play in blue to customize what will happen when you run the shortcut.
◉ Click “Done” in the top corner to add your new shortcut.
In these ways, you can customize the always-on display, control its behavior, and easily turn it on and off whenever you want.

Greetings, I thank you for your explanation, but it is useless and incorrect. I have completely removed this dirty application from the phone because it takes up space and is completely useless. I tried to benefit from it even once. Imagine, I went to Apple’s maintenance center and they could not do anything and they told me this is a useless program.
Hello Fares Al-Janabi 🙋♂️, I apologize if the application was not up to your expectations. In the end, we all like our devices to be free of problems and useless apps. But there is always room for improvement and development 🚀. Have fun and don't miss our exciting Apple news! 🍏😉
The notifications program is a very annoying program, and the difficulty of creating a shortcut makes it unusable. Please, how do I create a shortcut by sending a message when the battery charge reaches 100%? 100 Voice message: 100% 100 charged. May God reward you with good.
Hello Fares Al-Janabi 🙋♂️, to set up a shortcut that sends a voice message when the battery reaches 100%, you can use the “Shortcuts” application on your device. First, create a new shortcut and add the “Speak Text” action. Then, in the text box, type “100% shipped” or any text you desire. Next, add the “Battery Level” action and set it to 100%. Finally, save the shortcut. This shortcut will send a voice message when the battery reaches 100%. Have a day full of stable charging! 🔋😄
Thank you very much for sharing this information
Unfortunately, choose Always On Display. I don't have it, even though the latest update I received is 16.7.2 and my device model is iPhone 8 Plus. What is the problem? Gratefully
Welcome, Hossam El-Din 🙋♂️, “Always On Display” is only available on iPhone 13 Pro models and later. Unfortunately, the iPhone 8 Plus does not support this feature. Thank you for your understanding 🍏📱😊.
First of all, I thank {{Mahmoud Sharaf}} for this excellent article. When I was trying to implement the instructions that were received, and when I entered Focus, I went to work. I did not find the middle option. Is the problem related to the update?
Hello Rataj 🙋♂️, the update could be the reason. Make sure your iOS is updated to version 16.4 or later to see all the options. If the problem persists, it may be a good idea to restart the device. Always ready to help! 🍏😊
I swear Apple's problem recently is innovations that destroy the battery
There is no harm in taking the method from Android devices and adding some spices to it, and it would have been better for protecting against the terrifying battery drain with On-Does Play.
The iPhone excels in simplicity. I hope Apple will return to it soon
Welcome, Salman 😄, yes I agree with you, simplicity is what always distinguishes the iPhone. But don't worry, Apple is working hard to improve battery consumption with all new updates. In iOS 16.4, users have more control over Always On Display to better manage battery consumption. It is worth noting that Apple always receives feedback from users and seeks to improve its products accordingly. 🍏🔋👍
