Hidden features in iOS 18 that Apple did not tell you about (Part XNUMX)

About a week ago, Apple revealed the new operating system iOS 18 during its annual developer conference WWDC24 (you can find out the summary from here). During the event, the company showcased only the main and exciting features such as customization options, redesign of the Photos app, improvement of the Messages app, and other great features. But as usual, Apple does not highlight small features; That's why she didn't talk about it during the conference. For this reason, we will review during the following lines the first part of hidden features in iOS 18 that Apple did not announce during the WWDC 24 conference.

From iPhoneIslam.com, a blue icon with the number 18 on a blue and pink abstract background, indicating hidden features in iOS 18.

Redesigned Settings and iCloud

From iPhoneIslam.com, a screenshot of iPhone settings showing display, brightness, general settings, and iCloud settings. Features include light/dark mode options, storage information, software updates, AppleCare, and iCloud backup details. Discovering hidden features in the latest iOS 18 update from Apple.

The iPhone's Settings menu received a major overhaul with iOS 18. Now, it no longer displays a long list of system and third-party apps at the bottom. There is a special section called Applications, which contains all the applications for your device.

Also, main menus now display a small description at the top. For example, when you open the General menu, the system describes what you can expect to find. “Manage your general settings and preferences for your iPhone, such as software updates, device language, CarPlay, and AirDrop.” You will find the same thing when opening other sections such as Accessibility, Privacy, Security, and others.

In addition, the iCloud menu has also undergone a redesign. This section now displays details of your storage space, number of photos and drive files, number of saved passwords, notes, and messages stored on the iCloud platform.

T9 speed dial

From iPhoneIslam.com The smartphone screen displays a numeric keypad interface containing numbers from 0 to 9, each accompanied by corresponding letters, displaying the target T9. The phone's time is 9:41 AM, and the background features a gradient number "19".

iOS 18 finally offers a smart dialer to find your contacts easily with the new feature T9 (Text on 9 keys). Through T9, you will be able to find any contact by searching by numbers in the calling application, for example, if you want to call WALEED, just type the number 925333. The system will guess the contact, and automatically display it at the top. Then all you have to do is click on it to call it, and you can also write part of the number.

Search your call history

From iPhoneIslam.com, a smartphone screen showing recent call history with blurred contact names. The red arrow indicates a call made at 9:25 PM, showing the features hidden in iOS 18 by Apple.

The phone app has received some great improvements with the new OS. The Recent Contacts Page has a contact icon next to each contact. To avoid any unintended calls in this section, you will need to click on the contact; And then the contact icon. Another advantage is that you can now search through the call history instead of scrolling down.

Ah finally, I've randomly contacted countless people :)

Shrinkable partitions

From iPhoneIslam.com, three screenshots show a text editing app with a text formatting toolbar. The first screenshot highlights text on iOS 18. The second shows font color options. The third shows formatting options such as Bold and Italic, and reveals some hidden features of Apple's latest update.

The Notes app has got several new productivity functions. You can now create headings within a note, turning them into collapsible sections. There is also a highlighter that offers five colors to choose from: purple, pink, orange, green, and blue. Through these colors, you can easily distinguish the text that you want to focus on in a long paragraph.

Control the lamp beam size

From iPhoneIslam.com, a smartphone screen showing the Control Center menu with an active flashlight icon, showcasing one of iOS 18's cool features.

With the iOS 18 operating system, Apple introduced a simple feature, which is the ability to control the lighting focus of the lamp. Thus, when the lamp is turned on, long press on the dynamic island, and then the feature of controlling the size of the lamp beam will appear and make it wider or narrower as you want.

Power button shortcut

From iPhoneIslam.com, a screenshot of the iPhone Control Center in iOS 18 showing various controls, such as Airplane mode, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and music playback. A red arrow points to the power button in the top-right corner, highlighting one of Apple's hidden features.

In order to turn off the iPhone that contains a facial fingerprint. You need to press and hold the side button and any volume button at the same time until the slider appears and then drag the power off slider. For an iPhone with a Home button, press and hold the side button and then drag the slider to turn off the device. With iOS 18, the situation has completely changed, and it has become easier than before. Perhaps the credit for this is due to the virtual power button that can be found in the Control Center. Thus, you can simply swipe down from the top right of the screen and click on the virtual power button, after which you will be able to turn off the iPhone with ease.

In the end, these were the most important hidden features that Apple did not talk about during its annual developers conference; Because it's not as big or interesting as you think it is. However, these simple features will help enhance and improve the user experience and increase productivity.

Note: The iOS 18 update will be available to everyone in September, and it will support devices that support iOS 17, but some features will certainly be exclusive to some devices.

Why is there no WhatsApp on the iPad? When is it expected to be released on the iPad?

    comments user
    MIMV. AI

Hi Tariq 🙋‍♂️, WhatsApp is not available on iPad due to the company's focus on mobile devices like smartphones. As for when it will be launched on iPad, this depends on the decisions of WhatsApp itself and we have no current information about it. We hope the situation will change in the future! 🤞🍏

The question I ask most and for which I do not find a truly convincing answer every time Apple adds a feature that has been present for years with a competitor is: Why now? Why not earlier?
Especially with the simple and easy features that do not have any danger like T9

    MIMV. AI

Hello Muhammad 🙋‍♂️, The question you asked is often asked when Apple adds a new feature that competitors had. Apple is a company that cares about quality and detail, and often takes its time adding new features to ensure that they will work properly and smoothly. For example, the feature mentioned by T9, may be simple but needs to ensure that predictions are accurate and that privacy will not be compromised. We hope we have answered your question in detail 😊👍

Hello, thank you very much from Palestine. Please write to the company about some problems with the voiceover, such as the Braille input screen disappearing from the options and the voiceover suddenly stopping while navigating.

Why doesn't it support the iPhone 14 Pro Max?
??
A new device with a powerful processor, why limit it to the 15 Pro?

    comments user
    Blog administrator

It also does not support only the Pro 15, because the Pro processor is twice as powerful in processing artificial intelligence than previous versions.
That's what Apple says, and we don't believe them :)

Well

A question from outside or a request from the article
If you have the capabilities, contact Apple and ask Apple to solve this problem for the blind, which is 10,000, pronounced like 0.0, and VoiceOver ends with three zeros.

Hi Hassan! 🙋‍♂️ Knowing that you take care of the fine details is what makes Apple special. I would like to assure you that this issue you mentioned regarding VoiceOver is known to Apple and they are always working to improve the user experience for all people, including users with disabilities. I will relay your feedback to the relevant teams. Thanks for bringing this issue to our attention, we always respect Apple users' opinion and questions. 🍏👍

Will the call recording feature be available at all, and does both parties have to be an iPhone user and have the 18 update? Is it possible to record between an iPhone and any other Android device? Please advise us, because this feature is vague.

Welcome, Ashrafelsawi 🙋‍♂️, so far Apple has not provided clear information about the call recording feature in iOS 18. The feature may or may not be available, but so far we do not have official confirmation. I will keep my eyes open like an owl 🦉 and if there are any updates I will share them immediately. Thank you for your question and I hope you have a day full of optimism! 😊

Is it true that Apple added a feature in the update to share photos between Apple and Android?

    comments user

Hello Hakim 🙋‍♂️, Of course innovation is not limited to one company, but what distinguishes Apple is that it presents things in a unique and smooth way. We consider ourselves lucky to be on the apple boat 🍏, and this apple makes life easier! 😄

This is what imitation? But these things were immature
But Apple made sure that it had cooked the recipe

Otherwise, these things would not have been as necessary or important as usual

But now it has become necessary

Come on, one will see others and change his thinking

    comments user
    MIMV. AI

Hello Hakim 🙋‍♂️ Indeed, Apple always makes sure that ideas are mature before implementing them in their products. Although some features may be present in other platforms, Apple is keen to present them in the most optimal and useful way for the user. In the end, innovation is not just about creating something completely new, it can be about improving what already exists. 🍎💡

Apple also added the RCS feature, which is to send messages to Android phones without the need for any application. If this feature becomes widespread, it will spare the user the need for WhatsApp and similar applications.

As for the call log from the current version 17, the call log has been increased to approximately a month or two after it was limited to a week, but what is special, as you mentioned, is the availability of search, and these features were supposed to be available a long time ago, but coming late is better than Don't you come?
