Follow us with passion Apple Developers ConferenceWe saw how technologies such as “Apple Intelligence” changed the rules of the game, and took artificial intelligence technologies on phones a great leap forward. In fact, we salivated as we saw the features of this technology, especially when Apple mentioned that, thanks to this technology, it is finally possible to record calls on the iPhone without any external applications, and the matter will not be limited to recording only, but even further, what was recorded will be written in text and summarized on Automatically based on advanced artificial intelligence techniques. Here's everything we know so far about recording calls on the iPhone in the iOS 18 update.

From iPhoneIslam.com, A hand holding an iPhone displays an ongoing call with a cartoon avatar and the name "Francesco." The Arabic text on the image says, “Recording calls on iPhone applications without third parties – It’s not what you think!”

Thanks to new artificial intelligence features, Apple will soon allow iPhone users to record phone calls and convert them into written text, and you can get summaries of them.

During a phone call, the phone app will include a button that records the conversation when pressed. When this process begins, the other party on the call will receive a notification, or alert, letting them know that the call is being recorded. Even with this notice, iPhone users will have to follow local laws, and may be required to obtain prior approval before recording the call on the iPhone.

While recording, the phone app will display an audio wave with the recording time. The process of converting the call to text will take place in the Notes application in real time during the call, and you can also get a summary of the call created with Apple Intelligence technology.

From iPhoneIslam.com, three iPhone screens: the first shows a call with a cartoon character and an audio recording (Call Recording), the second a summary of a call, and the third shows a conversation about moving preparations and packing. It's all done seamlessly on iPhone apps without a third party.

As for the Notes app, you will also be able to make recordings, which will be converted to text in real time and create summaries from within the app itself, in addition to the phone app.

The iOS 18 update preview page indicates that the audio transcribing and converting feature will be available for iPhone 12 and later in English, Spanish, German, French, Japanese, Mandarin Chinese, Cantonese and Portuguese. Of course, other languages will be added successively.

Unfortunately, Arabic is not available at launch

Some mysterious points related to the call recording feature in iOS 18

From iPhoneIslam.com, A close-up of an iPhone screen with iOS 18, showing an active call interface with call recording in progress. The screen displays a 02:32 timer and options for Speaker, FaceTime, Mute, Add, End, and Keyboard – all seamlessly integrated without the use of third-party apps.

The feature of recording calls on the iPhone was talked about for only 30 seconds by Craig Federighi during the opening keynote of the Worldwide Developers Conference WWDC 2024. It is not clear whether there are restrictions on the recordings or not.

Will this feature be limited to calls between iPhone users only, or calls between iPhone users running the iOS 18 update, or will it work with calls between a compatible iPhone and a phone other than the iPhone? This is what we hope to know before the final version of the iOS 18 update is released next September.

Other benefits of the call recording and text conversion feature in iOS 18

The ability to record phone calls and convert them to text while calling is an exciting new feature for users of iPhones and other devices, as it is completely new to smartphones.

But the ability to summarize calls shouldn't be overlooked either. This feature will be very useful when you need to remember the main points of a phone call later. The summary will be generated using Apple Intelligence technology that was announced during the Worldwide Developers Conference.

These new features will make it easier for users to retain the content of phone calls and remember the most important points and necessary details from them later.

When will we get the call recording feature on the iPhone?

In fact, Apple did not mention any details about when this feature will be available, but it will certainly be available later like other features, which may be in trial versions. The beta version of the iOS 18 update is now available to developers, and will be available to the public sometime next month. If you can't wait to use the new features, install the beta version on your device. However, be aware that these beta versions are unstable, so it may be better to wait until the final version is released, or even at least wait for the public beta.
