𝕏 Banned in Brazil, Supreme Court Asks Apple to Ban It from App Store

After the dispute between Elon Musk and the Brazilian Supreme Court, X was banned in Brazil, starting from Friday 30/8/2024. Accordingly, the Brazilian Supreme Court asked Apple to remove the “𝕏” application from the Brazilian App Store. The question here is, how will Musk deal with this ban? And will Apple respond to the Brazilian court’s decision? Follow this article with us, and we will explain all the details to you, God willing.

Brazil officially bans Elon Musk's app

Initially, the X platform was involved in several controversies after it was acquired by billionaire Elon Musk in 2022. According to the latest reports, the X platform has more than 400 million active users worldwide, including 20 million Brazilian users.

What happened is that Elon Musk closed the X office in Brazil and laid off all employees in the Brazilian branch. This came after Elon Musk sent a letter rejecting the Brazilian Supreme Court’s requests to remove some accounts that spread false information, especially since this is an election year and very important for the Brazilian government.

In addition to all this, Brazilian law stipulates that social networks available in Brazil must have a local legal representative to deal with bureaucratic issues. The court justified that Elon Musk failed to comply with the court and that there is no legal representative for the X platform. Therefore, X was permanently banned in Brazil.

In the same context, the X platform has accumulated fines of up to $3 million for not complying with local court orders regarding the removal of misleading accounts.

Apple to remove X app from Brazilian App Store

The question here: What does Apple have to do with what’s happening between Musk and Brazil? Let me explain. With the ban on X in Brazil, the court ordered all ISPs to cut off access to X. In addition, the Supreme Court ordered Apple and Google to remove X from the App Store and Google Play.

While access to X has already been suspended from Brazil, the app is still available on the App Store as normal. Most users access the app using a VPN. Apple has yet to comment on the Brazilian Supreme Court’s requests, whether to grant or deny them. But the Supreme Court won’t wait long; it has imposed a fine of $9000 per day on any citizen who uses a VPN to access the banned X platform.

Speaking of Apple's position, we have to remember that Apple has banned the app Whatsapp Threads was removed from the Chinese app store based on a local government decision. But as for the Brazilian case, some rumors say that Musk is in talks with the Brazilian government to lift the ban on X in Brazil. Sources confirm that the X ban will not be a magic solution; a large number of Brazilians have created accounts on some other blogging platforms such as Mastodon, Bluesky, and Threads.

From iPhoneIslam.com, a close-up of a smartphone screen showing the “X” app with the button labeled “Update” and the slogan “Ignite Your Glory!” The app, despite facing an X ban in Brazil, has a 4.6-star rating and is intended for users 17 and older.

What do you think of the Brazilian Supreme Court's decision? Are you for or against the ban on X in Brazil? Tell us in the comments.

The Supreme Court in Brazil issued a decision to ban the use of the X platform as a VPN and impose a fine of $ 8 per day on the perpetrator.

Hello Mr. Ahmed 🙋‍♂️, Indeed, the decision issued by the Supreme Court in Brazil includes imposing a fine of up to $ 9000 per day on every citizen who uses a VPN to access the banned X platform, not $ 8 as you mentioned. The world of technology is full of exciting events, isn't it? 😅🍏

How can the Brazilian government know if someone is using a VPN to access the X platform, knowing that they have changed their IP address and connected to servers that are not affiliated with Brazilian telecom companies?

Hi Abdullah 🙋‍♂️, knowing that I am a machine and not an expert in legal affairs or advanced technology, but I will try to explain the matter in general. Despite using a VPN and changing the IP, there may still be ways to detect the use of a VPN, for example by studying the traffic pattern or checking the connection delay. But all of these methods require a high level of inspection and complex analysis. However, in the end, most of these methods are not 100% effective. 😅

The problem is that fake accounts are widespread, along with rumor and fraud accounts found in other applications such as WhatsApp, Telegram, Facebook, and many others.

It is difficult to control or prevent it.

X must block all fake accounts or accounts that spread lies and fraud.
A positive step from Brazil

Social networks, regardless of their platform, must take decisive steps to curb fake accounts and misleading news. This is an issue

Elon Max and all the owners of these networks must find a solution to prevent fake accounts, accounts that spread lies, phishing and blackmail accounts, and any account that violates the law in its country, out of respect for society in general and the system.

Hi Mohammed Al Saleh 🙋‍♂️, I totally agree with you! Social networks, regardless of whether they are “X” platforms or others, must take decisive steps to reduce fake accounts and misleading news. This is an issue that affects the quality of communication and information in the online community. 😇🌐🔒
