Apple's highly anticipated "It's Glowtime" conference has just ended, during which Apple unveiled a range of new products, most notably the iPhone 16 series, the tenth generation of the Apple Watch, and the AirPods 4 headphones. Apple also announced the date for the official release of updates to its operating systems, most notably the iOS 18 update. Below, we review the highlights of the conference, with details on prices and availability dates.

The conference began with a video showing how Apple products impact the lives of its users. The video featured a diverse group of people of all ages, including those with disabilities and those with disabilities, showcasing how they benefit from accessibility services, the Apple Watch’s accident detection feature, the Apple Fitness app, the Apple Watch’s ECG app, and other features, indicating that Apple devices and features are deeply embedded in people’s lives.

From iPhoneIslam.com, A person stands on the grass in front of a large, colorful rainbow structure, with trees in the background.

The show then moved to a scene from Apple Park, where Tim Cook appeared and announced that the conference would cover iPhones, Apple Watch, and many other services and products, with a focus on artificial intelligence and other advanced technologies. The show began by talking about the Apple Watch.

Apple Watch 10

The Apple Watch Series 10 has been revealed, featuring a 30% larger display and a slimmer design, making it slightly larger than the Apple Watch Ultra.

With the larger display, users can increase the font size without sacrificing content, and see an extra line of text in apps like Messages, Email, and News. It also makes it easier to type messages, enter a passcode, or pause a workout. Both the display and bezel feature more rounded corners and a wider aspect ratio, giving the Apple Watch Series 10 a softer, more elegant, and streamlined look.

The OLED display is optimized to emit more light from angles, making it up to 40% brighter when viewed from an angle, which improves visibility in different situations.

The Apple Watch Series 10 is available in new colours: a dark black finish in polished aluminium, while the stainless steel version has been replaced with polished titanium.

The new watch is 9.7mm thick, which makes it about 10% thinner than the Apple Watch 9.

The display has also been updated to display the time more accurately, updating once per second with a moving seconds hand, rather than updating once per minute as in previous versions.

For the first time, Apple Watch can play music and podcasts directly through the built-in speaker.

The antenna is also integrated into the metal back of the watch, improving its performance. This watch is the fastest charging among all Apple Watch versions, as it can reach 80% charge in just 30 minutes.

Despite being thinner, the Apple Watch Series 10 is also lighter. The aluminum versions are up to 10 percent lighter, while the Apple Watch Series 10 also comes in a grade 5 titanium version, which replaces stainless steel. This titanium version is 20 percent lighter than the stainless steel version of the Apple Watch Series 9.

Apple Watch Series 10 is a carbon-neutral product, made from 95% recycled titanium and powered by 100% renewable electricity.

The Apple Watch Series 10 is powered by the new S10 SiP chip, designed to improve performance, power efficiency, and AI. The watch uses a new neural network to reduce background noise when making calls.

The new watch adds smart features like the Smart Stack, which adds new widgets when you need them. The new Photos interface uses machine learning to organize photos from your library, and the Translate app has been added to it.

In terms of health features, Apple continues to offer atrial fibrillation notifications and wrist temperature measurements on existing devices. New to the Apple Watch Series 10 is the ability to alert users to sleep apnea. Since 80% of people with sleep apnea are undiagnosed, the Apple Watch uses an accelerometer to detect breathing disturbances and notify the wearer if they show consistent signs of moderate to severe sleep apnea. This feature is important because sleep apnea, if left untreated, can cause major health problems.

Similar to the new Vitals app in watchOS 11, users will need to wear their Apple Watch to bed for a few days before they can be diagnosed with sleep apnea.

The sleep apnea detection algorithm was developed using machine learning and clinical data, and then validated in a large-scale clinical trial. Apple expects to receive approval from the US Food and Drug Administration and other regulatory bodies soon. It is worth noting that the sleep apnea detection feature will also be available on Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2.

The Apple Watch Series 10 has major improvements in the area of exercise. In addition to its lighter weight and larger screen, it gets a new depth meter that goes down to 20 feet, which is why Apple is bringing the Depth app (currently exclusive to the Ultra models) to the Apple Watch Series 10.

In addition to the ability to measure water temperature for swimming in swimming pools and open water.

The new watch is great for surfing and fishing thanks to the new Tides app built into watchOS 11, which provides data from coasts around the world. The Workout app now includes distance, pace, and route mapping for kayaking.

Price and availability

The Apple Watch Series 10 starts at $399 for the GPS-only model, while the GPS and cellular model is priced at $499. Customers can pre-order the watch starting today, and it will begin shipping on September 20.

New Apple Watch Ultra 2 Released

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 hasn't been announced, instead Apple has announced a new satin black titanium version of the Apple Watch Ultra 2. The original Apple Watch Ultra was launched in 2022, as an extreme sports model.

The new version came with no design changes, and only offered a slightly faster chip, a brighter screen, and improved broadband technology.

Apple describes this watch as having the most accurate GPS in a sports watch, and Apple showcased the various features it has, which are suitable for cyclists, runners and other athletes.

Notable features of the watch include: compass app with waypoints and reverse tracking, offline maps, turn-by-turn directions, and much more.

Apple has announced a new edition in collaboration with luxury fashion house Hermès, called the Hermès Ultra 2. This watch features a natural titanium case and a Hermès En Mer band in dark navy. It comes with a special Hermès Maritime face, which features clear numerals and a bezel to display seconds, and can be turned into a countdown timer.

Like the Apple Watch Series 10, the Apple Watch Ultra 2 is made from 95 percent recycled titanium. Apple also announced a new titanium Milanese loop band for the Ultra 2.

Price and availability

The Apple Watch Ultra 2 will start at $799. The Hermès Edition starts at $1399. Customers can pre-order the watch starting today, with deliveries beginning September 20.

My AirPods 4

Apple announced the AirPods 4 headphones, and the common features between them are:

They look very similar to the AirPods 3 and the charging case is smaller than the AirPods 3. The new AirPods 4 charging case features USB-C charging, replacing the Lightning port, and offers up to 30 hours of total battery life. There's support for MagSafe wireless charging too.

The most important thing about AirPods 4 is that they offer a variety of improved and advanced audio upgrades, thanks to the H2 chip that enables powerful audio features like noise isolation, personalized spatial audio, responding to Siri with a gesture or head shake yes or no, and more. Previously, these features were exclusive to AirPods Pro 2, but now AirPods 4 users will get them as well.

The difference between AirPods 4

One includes exclusive features like active noise cancellation, transparency mode, and adaptive sound. The lower model lacks these essential features.

Both AirPods 4 models are available for pre-order starting today, and will ship on September 20.

Other details

Apple focused on improving comfort in the new AirPods 4. It noted that “the geometry of our ears is unique to each of us,” so it used advanced modeling tools to build an unprecedented ear dataset. It generated 50 million data points, allowing Apple to refine the design to create “the most comfortable AirPods ever.”

AirPods 4 feature a new acoustic architecture that delivers a richer soundstage, with support for custom spatial audio. The new headphones use machine learning to support head gestures like yes or no to answer Siri questions, as well as noise isolation to remove background noise.

Apple has also added a “conversation awareness” feature to the new headphones, allowing users to better interact with their surroundings while wearing the headphones.

Pricing and availability

The base model will start at $129, while the AirPods 4 with active noise cancellation will cost $179.

AirPods Pro 2 improvements

Apple also announced some new hearing health-related features, which come as a software update for the AirPods Pro 2.

This includes enabling Hearing Protection mode by default, which provides passive noise cancellation in noisy environments. Apple is also rolling out a “clinical-grade” hearing aid mode as part of a software update coming later this year.

First, users can take a clinically validated hearing test. The hearing test uses your AirPods and iPhone, and can be completed in as little as five times. The hearing test results can be viewed securely in the Health app.

If hearing loss is detected, Hearing Aid Mode becomes available. Your AirPods will make it easier to hear sounds from the world around you. A personalized hearing profile is automatically applied when you listen to audio, such as music or podcasts.

The hearing aid feature is currently in the process of being approved by the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and other regulatory bodies. Apple said the functionality will be available in more than 100 countries. The feature will be enabled through a free software update coming to AirPods Pro 2 later this year.

AirPods Max

Apple also announced an updated version of the AirPods Max, instead of launching the AirPods Max 2 as expected. The new version includes some updated features and new colors.

New colors include Starlight, Midnight, Purple, Orange, and Blue.

Apple also added a USB-C charging port, marking another step toward standardizing charging for all Apple devices.

From iPhoneIslam.com, five pairs of headphones are arranged in a row, decreasing in size from front to back, and shown on a white background.

Apple has said that the AirPods Max will support dedicated spatial audio in iOS 18. However, it's not yet clear if this comes with a new H2 chip or any other audio features that were previously exclusive to the AirPods Pro.

If the new AirPods Max don't include the H2 chip or any of the features it enables like Adaptive Audio and Voice Isolation, it could be disappointing. The AirPods Pro 2 have offered these features for years, and now the AirPods 4 do too.

Pricing and availability

The updated AirPods Max are available for pre-order today, and will ship on September 20. The price remains the same at $549.
