Apple released iOS 18.0.1 and iPadOS 18.0.1 yesterday evening, the first two updates to iOS 18 and iPadOS 18 that were released earlier in September. The update comes at an unusual time, coming two weeks after the release of ‌iOS 18‌. The update appears to fix a number of issues, especially for newer Apple devices, including the iPhone 16's sometimes unresponsive touchscreen.

What's new in iOS 18.0.1, according to Apple

  • This update provides important bug fixes and security updates to iPhone, including:

    • Touchscreen may temporarily stop responding under certain conditions on iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro models
    • Camera freeze possible when recording macro video with 4K Ultra Wide camera while HDR is off on iPhone 16 Pro models
    • Messages may quit unexpectedly when replying to a message through a shared interface on Apple Watch
    • Performance may be affected due to a memory allocation issue on some iPhone models.

Before updating, make sure to take a backup copy of the contents of your device, whether on iCloud or on the iTunes application

To update your device, take the following steps ...

Go to Settings -> General -> Software Update, it will show you that an update is available.

You can click on Learn more to view the update details

To download the update, you must connect to Wi-Fi. It is preferable to connect your device to the charger, then press the “Update Now” button.

The passcode entry screen will appear.

You may see the Terms and Conditions screen, accept them.

After the update is finished, the device will restart. After several steps, the update will be completed.
