How to Use the New Highlights Feature in Safari on iOS 18

Safari browser in i OS offersOS 18 A new feature called Highlights is designed to improve your browsing experience by intelligently displaying important information from web pages. The tool uses AI to identify and extract the most important details and display them in an easily accessible format.

From iPhoneIslam.com, the laptop shows a Safari browser window displaying an article from a media site, with the Safari icon prominently displayed in the foreground, hinting at new features like Highlights that may be introduced in iOS 18.

Smart Summary, or simply Highlights, is a tool that highlights the most important information on a page. Think of it as a smart assistant within Safari, saving you time and effort by eliminating the need to manually search through long content. Whether you’re looking for a restaurant, reading about a historical figure, or exploring a new movie, Highlights can quickly provide the essential information you need.

Imagine reading a long article or browsing a restaurant website. Instead of reading everything to find the information you are looking for, the Smart Summary automatically extracts the most important information and presents it to you in an organized and fast way, while providing direct links to important actions such as getting directions or booking a table, for example:

◉ If you are browsing a restaurant or company page, for example, the address, working hours, phone number, and location will appear directly to you.

◉ If you are reading about a famous person, it will show you brief information about them, their biography, and the most important information about their life.

◉ For entertainment content, for example, if you are looking for a movie or series, it will provide you with a summary of ratings and reviews.

Highlights aims to simplify the browsing experience by presenting this focused information at the right time.

Here's How to Use Highlights in iOS 18

◉ Open Safari and go to a supported webpage.

◉ Look for a purple flash above the Tools icon in the browser bar, which indicates that Highlights is available.

◉ Click on the flash to open the Highlights window.

◉ If you don't find the Smart Summary flash, it may not be enabled and you should enable it through Settings > Applications > Safari, then enable Highlights under Privacy and Security.

From iPhoneIslam.com, two smartphone screens showing Safari settings on iOS 18: The left screen shows the “Highlights” option with “On/Not Now” options, while the right screen shows “Highlights” enabled in the Safari settings menu.

◉ Review the summary information displayed in the window, and interact with the information you need, such as clicking on directions or play links.

◉ What is meant by directions is that the tool provides you with a link to a road map or path to reach the place.

For example, when you browse the website of a restaurant, company or store, Highlights will provide a direct link that opens a map application such as Apple Maps, and shows you how to get there from your current location, or the best route to get there, as well as the expected time for this trip, and it also provides different transportation options such as car, walking, public transportation, these features that we all know and are found in the map application in general.

Instead of copying the address, opening the Maps app, and pasting it to search for it, you can simply tap a single button in Highlights to get directions and the location directly.

From iPhoneIslam.com, two smartphones display a hotel website with guest room information on one screen and a print preview on the other, running smoothly in Safari on iOS 18.

By keeping an eye on the flashing icon while browsing, you can take full advantage of this time-saving feature and quickly access the most relevant information from websites. It is worth noting that the Highlights feature is currently available in the United States only and works with English websites only. It will certainly be available in other languages, including Arabic, in future updates.

What do you think of the Highlights feature? Let us know in the comments.

There are some tools in the iPhone Islam program that require spending gold coins for each use of these tools. These include the tool for downloading videos from social media programs and other tools.

⚠️ Information that may interest you when activating this feature, (When you activate the highlight feature, Safari sends information calculated from the address of the web page you are browsing to Apple) 🫣

Hi Abdullah 🙋‍♂️, Thank you for this valuable information. We should always remember that privacy is a priority for Apple and they are keen to emphasize this in all their products. However, we should also be aware that some features may require sharing some information to provide a better service. Things are always under your control, so if you feel any concern about your privacy, you can simply disable this feature. 🍏🔒

I hope the company changes this behavior. I feel the feeling when the company oppresses me and does not add the Arabic language at all. Only the English language. The evidence is artificial intelligence. The device must be in English.
I heard that the company will add more languages to the artificial intelligence. I hope that Arabic will be among them, God willing, in 2025.

Hello world of iOS and technology, 😊

I feel you, my friend. I also look forward to the day when Apple will fully support Arabic across all of its services, including AI. 🌍💡

You're right, there are expectations that Apple will add more languages to its services in the future. And if the expectations are in our favor, we might see Arabic support by 2025. 🚀📅

Don't worry, I will keep you updated with any new news on this topic. Thank you for your understanding and patience! 🙏🍎

Who knows the voice control feature?
I know the feature is old and has been around since iOS 13.
We are now in iOS 18, and the voice control feature is unfortunately not supported in the Arabic language.
God willing, you will add the Arabic language to it. I tried the first beta version of iOS 15 and I was happy when I heard that the voice control feature now supports the Arabic language, but in the seventh beta version it became non-existent before Apple removed the Arabic language. I tried downloading the Arabic language, but it did not support it. I thought it was a system error, but when the Arabic language was removed, I became sad because the Arabic language is our language as Arabs. I do not know why Apple sometimes cares more about the English language in updates than Arabic. I know that the Siri feature in iOS 9 point 2 now supports the Arabic language, but sometimes Apple ignores us as Arabs.

Hello world of iOS and technology 🙋‍♂️, I'm sorry for what you're going through regarding the voice control feature and Arabic language support 🌐. Actually, it seems that Apple's preference for English over Arabic in some updates upsets Arab users, and I understand that very well. We hope that Apple will respond to users' requests and provide better support for the Arabic language in the upcoming updates 🙏. Thank you for participating and showing your technical sense 😄👍.

A great feature that is available in the Brave browser application, and I will try it. Please, we need an explanation of how to use the photos application, and what is new in it with the iOS 18 update. The application has become a huge mess. I have been using the new upgrade for a month and I could not understand the new organization of photos.

Welcome Mufleh 🙋‍♂️, I'm glad you find the new features useful. As for the Photos app in iOS 18, it has changed a lot and has become smarter and more organized.

First, there’s a new feature called “Live Text” that recognizes text within images and lets you interact with it. Second, there’s a new algorithm to organize images by topic to make them easier to browse.

Finally, there's better and easier sharing with people in your photos with a new face detection algorithm.

Don't worry, I'll be doing a comprehensive article about all the changes to the Photos app soon! 😁📸🍏

But what is the difference between it and the Google feature that puts the best result in the first choice, whether it is a place, an article, or anything else?

    comments user
    MIMV. AI

Hi Khaled 🙋‍♂️, The main difference lies in how the information is presented. Google gives you the best search results based on the keywords you use, but Safari's Highlights feature takes the page you're currently browsing and extracts the most important and basic information from it. Instead of searching for the information you want, Highlights gives you this information directly. 👀📱🚀
