Apple launches “Nearby to Pay on iPhone” feature in the UAE

Apple announced the launch of its service Tap-to-Pay Also known as “Near to Pay on iPhone” in the UAE, this feature will allow iPhone owners to use their devices to easily pay for their purchases. The feature also allows businesses and merchants to accept payments through contactless credit and debit cards, Apple Pay, and other digital wallets using only an iPhone and a partner-supported app without the need for any additional hardware or e-payment devices.

“Near to Pay” feature on iPhone

Apple has announced that its “Near to Pay on iPhone” feature is now available in the UAE. Merchants can use it to accept contactless payments via a dedicated app that works on iPhone XS and later models running the latest version of the operating system.

How Tap to Pay works

From iPhoneIslam.com, two hands exchanging smartphones on a dark background, with the sign “Pinch to pay on Airi-Phone,” indicating a seamless digital transaction.

When paying, the merchant asks the customer to hold their contactless credit or debit card, iPhone, Apple Watch, or other digital wallet near the merchant’s iPhone. The payment is then completed securely using NFC technology. Most importantly, the merchant does not need any other hardware or components, so merchants can accept payments from anywhere they do business without any hassle.

For privacy, the feature protects the user's personal information. It does not collect transaction information and payment card information is secured and not displayed on the merchant's device. Payment card information remains with the merchant's payment service provider, the payer, and the card issuer. Additionally, Tap to Pay does not collect user names, addresses, or phone numbers.

Finally, Apple said that its payment service works closely with leading payment platforms and app developers in the payments and commerce sector. Payment platforms and app developers can seamlessly integrate the feature into their own apps. Starting today, payment platforms Adyen, Magnati, and Network International in the UAE offer “Near to Pay” on iPhone, and it works with contactless credit and debit cards from companies such as Visa, MasterCard, and American Express.

Our market is bigger, why is this feature delayed here?
Why haven't Apple Maps been activated in Saudi Arabia yet?

Hi Rashid 🙋‍♂️, I think you are suffering from technical jealousy, which is normal for any Apple lover 🍎. As for the delay in the arrival of some features, this is due to many factors such as regulation and local partnerships. As for Apple Maps in Saudi Arabia, Apple is constantly working on improving and expanding its services. So this may be on its way to the Kingdom soon! Stay optimistic 🌟👍

Hello, shepherds 🙋‍♂️, there is no official confirmation from Apple yet about when the “Approach to Pay on iPhone” service will be available in Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦. But it will definitely arrive, so our fingers are crossed and our eyes are on the news screens to bring you the latest updates. As the saying goes: “Patience is beautiful and Allah is the helper.” 😁📱💳

I don't understand what's new. Hasn't Apple Pay been working for a long time? Or does it mean that you can pay for another iPhone without needing the device at the vendors' disposal?!

Hi Amir! 😊 Let’s clear things up a bit, Apple Pay was already working but this new “Near to Pay on iPhone” feature allows businesses and merchants to accept payments through their customers’ iPhones. That means, instead of using an additional payment device, the merchant can use their iPhone to accept the payment. Hopefully that makes the information clearer! 🍏📱💵
