With iOS 18.2, Apple added the ability to integrate ChatGPT with Apple Intelligence to expand the range of AI capabilities available to users on supported iPhones. One feature you may not know about is the ability to generate images within the Messages app, ready to share. ChatGPT relies on DALL E technology to generate these images, and the results are often much better than those provided by Apple’s Image Playground tool. Read on to learn how you can do it.

From iPhoneIslam.com, the smartphone screen displays an editing app with a picture of a frog, surrounded by suggestions like “Change the color of the frog to blue” and “Add a second frog.” The fun creativity is similar to popular tools like DALL·E, bringing your photos to life with endless possibilities.

Setting up ChatGPT on iPhone

If you have an iPhone 15 Pro or iPhone 16 with Apple Intelligence enabled, setting up ChatGPT integration takes a few simple steps, and you can get started without even needing a ChatGPT account. You can always start with the basic setup and upgrade to a linked account later if needed, though testing has shown that there’s not much difference between the two in everyday use on the iPhone.

◉ Open Settings.

◉ Tap Apple Intelligence & Siri.

◉ Under the “Extensions” section, tap ChatGPT.

◉ Turn on the option next to Use ChatGPT.

From iPhoneIslam.com, three smartphone screens display the settings for “Apple Intelligence & Siri”, the Messages app, and the “ChatGPT” extension, with different options that can be turned on or off, displaying the iPhone’s intuitive interface.

If you have a free or paid ChatGPT account, you can log in from this screen using your account details.

Create images in the Messages app

When you enable ChatGPT integration, whenever you use Siri, it will analyze your request to see if it needs an answer from ChatGPT. However, you can indicate that you want to use ChatGPT by simply starting your Siri request with the phrase “ChatGPT.”

So, the next time you’re in a Messages conversation and want to express something with a picture, tap the text field, then hold down the side button on your iPhone to activate Siri, and say something like: “ChatGPT, create a picture of a cat reading a book about fish.” Wait a few seconds, and ChatGPT will insert the image into the text field, ready to share in the conversation.

From iPhoneIslam.com, three smartphone screens show a messaging app. The user sends messages asking for a picture of a cat reading a book about fish. The app generates two pictures of cats with fish motifs based on the request.

If you like the image, click the “Send” button to send it. If the image is not what you expected, you have several options:

– You can press “Rewrite”, and ChatGPT will create a new image from scratch based on your request.

– Or you can tap on one of the suggestions provided by ChatGPT to add specific details to the image.

– You can also click on “Improve with ChatGPT” and write your own description for more accurate details.

Once done, hit the colored arrow button to send the request to ChatGPT, and it will do its magic.

From iPhoneIslam.com, three smartphone screens, including the latest iPhone, show an app screen with a charming cat image and options to enhance text using AI suggestions.

Siri's capabilities are enhanced with ChatGPT

As you can see, Siri’s integration with ChatGPT greatly enhances its capabilities compared to what most iPhone users are used to. This integration works well even with complex requests that include problem solving, writing assistance, detailed explanations, and step-by-step instructions.
