Apple releases iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5 update

Apple has released iOS 18.5 and iPadOS 18.5, two updates that bring numerous security fixes and improvements. Most users hate updates, but Apple updates aren't just visual improvements or new features; they're fundamentally designed to ensure the security of your device and your personal data.

With every update, Apple fixes security vulnerabilities that hackers could exploit to access your sensitive information, such as notes, call history, or even your iCloud data. The iOS 18.5 update comes after a series of beta releases, which means it has been thoroughly tested to provide a stable experience. So this time, it's bound to happen. Do you know why? This update fixes more than 50 vulnerabilities, including the first documented vulnerability for the new C1 modem in the iPhone 16e. Now you know why it's such an important update.

From iPhoneIslam.com, a digital illustration of an icon displaying the number 18.5 in large white text on a blue and pink gradient background, representing Apple's new iOS 18.5 update.

There are minor updates for iOS 17, macOS 14, and macOS 13 as well.

What's new in iOS 18.5, according to Apple

  • These updates provide important bug fixes and security updates.
  •  Parents now receive a notification when a Screen Time passcode is used on a child's device.
  • iPhone Purchases are available when you purchase content from the Apple TV app on a third-party device.
  • Fixes an issue where the Apple Vision Pro app might display a black screen.
  • Provides support for carrier-provided satellite features on iPhone 13.

Some security vulnerabilities fixed in iOS 18.5

Let's take a look at the most notable security vulnerabilities addressed in this update, which include issues with the Notes app, calls, Bluetooth, and iCloud document sharing.

1. Protect the Notes app

The Notes app is one of the most widely used apps on iPhone and iPad. Unfortunately, Apple has discovered two security vulnerabilities in this app:

The first vulnerability allowed attackers with physical access to the device to view notes directly from the lock screen. Imagine you left your phone in a public place and someone tried to access your personal notes!

The second vulnerability allowed attackers to access deleted call recordings. This is a serious problem, especially if you use Notes to store sensitive information.

Fortunately, these two vulnerabilities have been fixed with improvements to verification and authentication, ensuring that your data is safe even if your device is lost.

2. Improve call and FaceTime security

If you're a FaceTime user or rely on calling apps, this update brings good news. Two important vulnerabilities have been fixed:

Call log bug: This caused call logs from deleted apps to appear in Spotlight search results. This means that information you thought was gone may unexpectedly reappear.

FaceTime issue: In some cases, FaceTime was not muting audio correctly when mute mode was enabled, which could accidentally reveal private conversations.

These issues were resolved by improving state management in the system, ensuring a more secure and private calling experience.

3. Enhance Bluetooth security

Bluetooth is one of the most widely used technologies in smart devices, but it can be a vulnerability if not managed properly. In the iOS 18.5 update, Apple fixed a vulnerability that allowed apps to use Bluetooth to access sensitive user data without permission. This issue was resolved by improving Bluetooth state management, making your device more secure when connecting to other devices.

4. Protect iCloud documents

If you use iCloud to share documents, this update is especially important. Apple discovered a vulnerability that could have allowed attackers to enable iCloud sharing for some folders without requiring prior authentication. This means your data could be vulnerable if the update is not implemented. Fortunately, this vulnerability has been fixed, ensuring that sharing your documents is completely secure.

5. Fix the Core Graphics vulnerability

Another vulnerability that was fixed related to the Graphics Core, a core component of iOS. This vulnerability could have exposed sensitive user data due to a boundary check issue. This issue was resolved by improving boundary checks, enhancing the overall security of the system.

C1 modem repair for iPhone 16e

One of the most notable features of the iOS 18.5 update is the fix for the first documented vulnerability in the C1 modem, a new internal modem developed by Apple and first used in the iPhone 16e, announced in February 2025. This modem represents a major step toward reducing Apple's reliance on third-party vendors, but it brings with it new security challenges.

Hello Issam Mohamed 🙋‍♂️, I understand how you feel, but once you update to the new iOS version, it's very difficult to go back to the older versions. Apple stops signing older versions shortly after releasing new updates. This makes it practically impossible to install those versions. 😓 Therefore, I advise you to keep the new update and take advantage of the improvements and fixes it provides. 😉👍🏻

Hello, the 18.5 update is a failure in all sizes. The battery performance of the iPhone 15 Plus is ruined. The device is heavy and the screen freezes.

Hello Essam Mohamed 🙋‍♂️, I apologize if the 18.5 update negatively affected your device. But let me reassure you, Apple is always working to solve these problems in future updates. This phenomenon is often temporary and improves after using the device for a period of time. It is always recommended to perform a simple restart of your device after the update; it may help solve some problems. Finally, don't forget that Apple provides great technical support that can help you in case of any problems 📱💪🚀

Indeed, for the iPhone 15, this update is very bad in terms of battery consumption and is heavy on the hardware.

Dear brothers, regarding the iPhone 18.5, the new update (17.7) in battery performance (meaning the time the battery lasts after charging) is better than the previous update, better than 17.7.2, and better than XNUMX.

Hello Baha Al-Salibi 🙋‍♂️, Regarding battery performance in the iOS 18.5 update, Apple hasn't mentioned any specific battery performance improvements 🍏. However, in general, each update includes tweaks and improvements that may positively impact battery performance. However, performance may vary from device to device based on user usage and selected settings ⚙️🔋. If you have feedback or personal experiences about battery performance with the new update, we'd love to hear them! 😊

I learned that there is a feature in the lock screen. What is this feature, and how do I activate it?
Gratefully.

Hi Maha 🌷, the vulnerability in the Notes app that was fixed allowed attackers with physical access to the device to view notes directly from the lock screen. But don't worry, this vulnerability has been fixed in the iOS 18.5 update 🎉.

If you would like to activate this feature, you can follow these steps:
    1- Go to “Settings”
    2- Choose “Access Control”
3- Then “Access on lock screen”
4- Finally, activate the “Notes” option.

I hope this helps, and feel free to ask other questions if you have any! 😊👍

Good news for everyone
Apple agreed when they liked my suggestion to set up head tracking. The feature will be added with iOS 19.
The second piece of good news for everyone is that the voice control feature will support the Arabic language with the upcoming iOS 19 update.
Very late Apple
But you like to impress us

Welcome, Rashid 🙋‍♂️. In fact, Apple has not yet announced support for artificial intelligence in the Arabic language or the activation of the maps service in Saudi Arabia. But it's only a matter of time, as Apple is always striving to improve the user experience and expand the scope of its services. Don't be sad, good news will come soon, God willing 😊🍏

Hello Youssef 🙋‍♂️, I wish you the best always. Regarding your request, I know it's a useful feature, but Apple hasn't yet introduced it in iOS. However, it's worth noting that iPadOS supports split-screen mode. We hope Apple will innovate this aspect in future updates. 😄🍏

I was the first to see the S24 Ultra and I had a feeling of wanting to switch to Samsung, but unfortunately the Eco System prevented me because I have an iPad, Mac, headphones, an Apple Watch and an iPhone, of course, but I will wait for the iPhone 17. If it does not have the required specifications and features, I will definitely make the decision to switch to the S26.
I was disappointed that devices like the iPhone 13-14 will not have AI features.

Hi Samer 🙋‍♂️, I feel you and understand what you're going through. Moving from one system to another is not easy, especially when you're deeply immersed in the Apple ecosystem and all its products 📱⌚️💻. I know that change can be tempting sometimes, but there are always new experiences and new challenges that arise with every change. On the bright side, Apple seems to be investing heavily in security improvements and software updates in iOS 18.5, perhaps this could be a step in the right direction to convince you to stay 😉. Always remember, the grass is not always greener on the other side! 🌳👀

Hi Sami 🙋‍♂️, Satellite calling requires support from your local telecom company, which may not be available yet. Don't worry, there's no problem with your device or the update. Just make sure to contact your telecom company to confirm this feature is activated. And don't forget to always smile 😊🍏
