iPhone 17 Pro vs. iPhone Air: Which is better?

If you're an iPhone fan, you might be torn between the iPhone 17 Pro and the iPhone Air this year. The iPhone Air features a new, slimmer design that changes the look of the iPhone lineup, making those who prefer the iPhone Pro consider switching.

From iPhone Islam: Two iPhones are shown side by side for comparison: the orange iPhone 17 Pro on the left and the white iPhone Air on the right, with a "VS" in the middle to indicate comparison.

Comparison between iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air

Apple launched two distinctive phones, the iPhone 17 Pro, which came with significant improvements such as a faster processor, a brighter screen, and a better battery, in addition to improved cameras with up to 8x optical zoom.

The iPhone Air is an engineering masterpiece with an ultra-thin body and a powerful processor similar to the iPhone 17 Pro, despite its small size.

Does this mean the iPhone Air is comparable to the iPhone 17 Pro?

Design: Clear difference

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone Air are completely different in design. Despite some minor similarities, such as the rear camera extending across the phone's width and the Dynamic Island interface, the Air focuses on being extremely thin and light.

The iPhone Air is the thinnest iPhone yet, measuring 5.64 mm thick and weighing 165 grams. The iPhone 17 Pro is thicker and heavier, measuring 8.75 mm thick and weighing 206 grams.

The Air uses a titanium frame, which provides durability while maintaining its thinness, while the 17 Pro uses an aluminum design for better cooling. Both are water and dust resistant with an IP68 rating and feature a customizable action button and camera control button.

The iPhone 17 Pro comes in bold colors like cosmic orange, deep blue, and silver, while the iPhone Air comes in lighter colors like sky blue, light gold, white, and space black.

Screen: Bright and powerful

The two displays are very similar in quality, with only a slight difference in size. The iPhone 17 Pro has a 6.3-inch display, while the iPhone Air has a slightly larger 6.5-inch display.

Both displays have a high brightness of up to 3000 nits, support for ProMotion technology with a 120Hz refresh rate, and Ceramic Shield 2 glass protection to reduce scratches and reflections.

Processor: A19 Pro, with a slight difference in graphics performance

Both phones feature the powerful A19 Pro processor, the fastest processor in smartphones today. The processor features six processing cores and 6 AI cores, making it extremely fast for gaming and running heavy-duty apps.

The difference is that the iPhone Air has a five-core graphics processor (GPU) while the iPhone 17 Pro has a six-core GPU, making the latter slightly faster at processing graphics. The iPhone 6 Pro also has a better cooling system to prevent the phone from overheating under heavy use.

Camera and audio: iPhone 17 Pro outperforms

The iPhone 17 Pro's camera is highly advanced, with a 48MP telephoto lens that enables up to 8x optical zoom, an ultra-wide lens with macro capabilities, and second-generation image stabilization. It supports professional video and advanced imaging technologies, such as 4K cinematic video.

The iPhone Air has a single 48MP main camera with only a simple 2x optical zoom, and it doesn't support some advanced features like Cinematic Mode or ProRes video recording.

In terms of audio, the iPhone 17 Pro comes with a quad-microphone system that produces clearer sound, and two stereo speakers, While the iPhone Air has only one speaker.

Connectivity: mmWave is not supported on iPhone Air.

Both phones support 5G networks, but the iPhone 17 Pro supports mmWave, a technology that offers faster speeds in certain areas. The iPhone Air offers 5G at slightly lower speeds and supports only an electronic SIM card (eSIM) in all models.

The iPhone 17 Pro supports a physical SIM card in some countries, with USB-C data transfer speeds of up to 10 Gbps. Compared to 480 Mbps for Air.

Battery life: iPhone 17 Pro outperforms

Due to the iPhone Air's thinness, its battery lasts up to 27 hours of video playback, which is a good number for a phone of this size. However, the iPhone 17 Pro offers a longer battery life of up to 39 hours.

Fast charging is better on the 17 Pro, where the battery can be charged up to 50% in 20 minutes, while the Air needs 30 minutes to reach the same level.

If you use your phone for extended periods or need a longer battery life, the 17 Pro is the better choice, but the Air can be supplemented with an additional MagSafe battery if desired.

Price: Similar between the two models

The iPhone 17 Pro starts at $1099 for the 256GB model. The iPhone Air starts at $999 for the same capacity, meaning the price difference isn't too significant compared to the technical differences.

Increasing the capacity to 512GB costs an additional $200, and 1TB increases the price by $400 on both phones.

Conclusion: iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air?

If price isn't a primary consideration, your choice depends on what you want from a phone. The iPhone Air features a slim and light design, ideal for those who prefer portability and ease of use.

The iPhone 17 Pro is aimed at those who want a powerful phone with the best camera specs, battery life, and performance, and is best for intensive use, gaming, and professional photography.

Which features do you value most in your smartphone? Slim design or power and advanced performance?

There's no doubt that those who choose the Air will get a new feature in the form of the phone, which, as we mentioned, is hidden behind a cheap cover to prevent it from breaking if it falls accidentally. There is an advantage to the small iPhone Pro, which is its price, which makes the decision swing between the iPhone Air and the Pro Max. In other words, make up your mind and buy the Air if the larger screen of the Pro Max is not important, such as the change in the form, thinness, and appearance that the iPhone in this category has suffered. If the screen size is important, then go for the Pro Max. The result is a decision of options, not a serious purchase of the small iPhone Pro, comparing the Air to the Pro Max, as it is like a male goat who is permissible for a woman who has been divorced three times.

There is no comparison between the two phones.
The Pro is better in everything except for the slight difference in price (approximately $100, or 375 Saudi riyals) and slimness.

If only the Air was the same orange color as the Pro, it would be even more attractive!
But the Air makes you take it driven by emotion!

Most iPhone models are very similar.
What about the same edition in the same year?
Change at least four to five models, then think about choosing between the versions.

Personally, I would choose the iPhone 17 Pro in any case, with a not-so-big price difference. Frankly, I don't know who the target group is for the iPhone Air. For example, my priority was not to get a slim device with even lower specifications than the regular iPhone 17, such as a stereo speaker, a larger battery, and a lower price.

Neither this nor that. If you have an iPhone 14 or above, take it apart. You are wasting money on nothing with the 16 Pro Max, I am telling you. Or go get a Galaxy 25, it is better for you 👌

If you have a 15 Pro or higher, disassemble it... because the 14 doesn't support AI features, and the truth is, many of these features are important, and more are coming this year, even if it doesn't support Arabic.
