Tim Cook: Demand for iPhone 17 is stronger than Apple expected

In a move that reveals the early success of its latest phones, Apple CEO Tim Cook announced that demand for IPhone 17 It exceeded the company's expectations from the very first days of its market launch. Although Apple hasn't yet released official figures, Cook's statements during the recent call with investors clearly reflect this reality: users have embraced the new series with unprecedented enthusiasm, leading to supply shortages for some models. This surprising demand will be explored in this article, where we'll examine the most popular models and whether Apple has truly overcome the challenges of recent years to reassert its dominance in the smartphone market.

From iPhoneIslam.com, a businessman holds a fan of dollar bills with a confident smile, bragging that every minute spent on Apple products earns him more.

Demand exceeds expectations and supplies are limited

From PhoneIslam: Four iPhones, rumored to be the upcoming Apple iPhone 17, appear in purple, white, orange, and black, displayed from the back to highlight their cameras and the famous Apple logo.

During the call with investors, Cook explained that the iPhone 17 series is still facing challenges in meeting demand, which he considered a positive indicator of the success of the company's new phones. This statement aligns with recent reports indicating a significant increase in manufacturing orders from suppliers, reflecting strong early demand for the new devices, particularly the standard iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Pro.

iPhone Air sales decline

From Phone Islam: A hand holding a slim smartphone horizontally against a blue background, showing the phone's slim profile and side buttons—perfect for completing a tech post or briefing in October 2023.

Despite increased sales of some iPhone 17 models, iPhone Air It failed to garner user attention, suggesting the company might be reconsidering its strategy for this model. According to internal sources, iPhone Air production has been reduced, with a focus on increasing production of models like the iPhone 17 and 17 Pro. The iPhone Air's poor performance appears to be offset by the clear superiority of the higher-end models, which have received positive feedback from both users and reviewers.

iPhone 17 series sales

From Phone Islam: A row of smartphones, including an orange one in the foreground, are displayed on stands in a brightly lit retail store, showcased among the latest tech news during September's tech month.

When Tim Cook was asked to break down the performance of each iPhone 17 model individually, he said he would dodge the question. He also explained that Apple doesn't release sales figures by model. But between the lines, Cook implied that the company is currently focusing on the base and Pro models. This strongly suggests that demand is high for both the base and Pro versions, while the Air model is performing poorly.

iPhone 16 sales

Interestingly, Cook also noted that Apple still experienced a shortage of iPhone 16 units in the last quarter, indicating that demand for the previous series remained strong even with the launch of the iPhone 17. Cook stated, "We could have sold more iPhone 16 units if we had had more stock," reflecting the brand's continued momentum in the smartphone market.

Strong financial results

From iPhoneIslam.com, an apple-shaped silhouette filled with US dollar bills, making money every minute.

It's worth noting that Apple ended its fourth fiscal quarter on September 27, 2025, a quarter that included only the initial days of the iPhone 17's availability. Despite this, the company reported revenue of $102.47 billion, an 8% increase compared to the same period last year. This suggests that the new generation of its smartphones is already driving the company's financial growth.

Finally, Tim Cook's statements confirm that the iPhone 17 marks the beginning of a new chapter in Apple's success, with sales exceeding the company's expectations and putting pressure on supply lines from the very first days of its launch. However, the iPhone Air doesn't seem to have achieved the same momentum, which may prompt Apple to reassess its place in its future device lineup. With these early indicators, Apple appears poised for another strong quarter, driven by a resurgence in demand for its flagship phones.

Will we soon see a return to balance between iPhone models in terms of sales, or will users continue to choose only the higher-end models? Let us know your opinion in the comments!

The problem was the heat; we were experiencing overheating issues, but it's resolved now. I have an excellent iPhone 17 Pro, and it was a great deal. I think this phone will last me at least five years with very high performance.

The game of prices and its story is interesting. The fact that the apple maintains its unchanged price despite the inflation is considered a new avenue to increase sales.
The iPhone is a powerful device for two reasons that currently make it unrivaled: First, its operating system is relatively robust and secure. Second, its powerful, internally manufactured processors deliver exceptional performance.
As for the price and maintaining it, that is thanks to removing processors from the external purchasing cycle.

Because it became closer to Android
Because they changed the design and it became distinctive compared to previous versions.

I don't know why I find it difficult to believe these statements. For example, take the United States. We have unprecedented inflation due to ongoing wars and tariff wars that have affected all sectors, from the simplest goods and foodstuffs, which have led to the closure of many restaurants, to government shutdowns and the layoff of thousands of employees by major companies due to the artificial intelligence revolution and the insane war on immigrants, on whom the American economy heavily depends, to the rise in gold prices to extraordinary levels, the real estate slump, the rise in car prices, and so on. The percentage of debt among citizens has reached its highest level due to bank credit cards. If an employee is finding it difficult to meet his household obligations, how can we believe Apple's announcement of record sales for its products?

Unfortunately, Apple's loyal customers will be one of the reasons for the company's downfall. The iPhone, with its mere changes and upgrades, fails to keep pace with what competitors offer in the age of artificial intelligence. Its materials are the worst since the iPhone's inception (easily scratched, color fades quickly). This is a blatant lie, as evidenced by the stock market's drop following the announcement. Sadly, users have made this model a success, effectively eliminating any chance Apple had of regaining its leading position in introducing new technologies.

I have a 16 Pro with dual SIM functionality, which is more than enough, and there's no reason to upgrade to a 17 Pro, especially considering there are only three color options, and two of those colors are prone to scratches.
