In the past few days, videos have been circulating widely on X showing an iPhone 17 Pro Max running iPadOS 26. The video below, posted by Duy Tran, has been viewed over 3.2 million times at the time of writing. The next video, by Huy Nguyen, has garnered over 1.7 million views. This clearly demonstrates the interest in running the richer iPadOS 26 on a device that comes pre-installed with iOS 26. Before you get too excited about switching to iPadOS on your iPhone, you should know that Apple has not and will not officially offer this functionality, which means there may be potential risks.

Is this just a technical error?
In another post, Doy Tran explained that running iPadOS 26 on an iPhone 17 Pro Max is essentially a bug. Someone exploited a vulnerability to enable this through jailbreaking.
It appears that Apple is aware of the problem and this bug has been fixed in the second beta version of the iOS 26.2 update.
Therefore, if you intend to do this, it is first and foremost at your own risk, and then avoid updating to the official iOS 26.2 version for as long as possible.
Although iOS 26 and iPadOS 26 appear identical in terms of their Liquid Glass design and app functionality, the iPad operating system boasts exclusive features that allow users to take full advantage of the larger screen. Many apps have been optimized for this bigger display. The Dock is also larger, allowing you to run apps side-by-side, and much more.
In fact, the iPadOS 26 update brings the iPad much closer to a MacBook, thanks to the new multitasking system and the introduction of the Top Menu.
