Finally, a free app unlocks all the features of modern AirPods on Android phones.

You might be a fan of AirPods, thanks to their sound quality, sleek design, and exciting features, but you can't use them effectively on Android phones. They operate at half their capacity, have limited functionality, and lack the seamlessness of iPhones. This has been the case for years; you buy expensive Apple headphones only to find they're just "ordinary Bluetooth headphones" when paired with a non-iPhone phone. But now, the game has changed thanks to a new, free app called LibrePods, which allows you to bypass Apple's limitations and enjoy all the smart features of AirPods on your Android phone.

From PhoneIslam: Four screenshots show Kavish's AirPods Pro management interface using the AirPods app for Android, including battery status, sound settings, and head tracking controls with gesture and orientation data.

The innovative developer Kavish Devar solved this problem with the LibrePods app. The app's concept is both ingenious and simple: it "reverse-engineers" Apple's proprietary protocols, making AirPods think your Android phone is actually an iPhone or iPad.

From PhoneIslam: The LibrePods logo with the text: "AirPods liberated from the Apple ecosystem. A free app that brings AirPods features to Android." Android and Linux icons included.

This software trick unlocks the headphones, allowing them to share data and features previously restricted outside of iOS. This grants you access to five incredible features. Once the app is installed, your entire audio experience will be transformed. Here are the key features the app unlocks:

◉ Automatic Ear Detection: Music automatically pauses when you remove the earbuds and resumes when you put them back in. Say goodbye to wasted battery!

◉ Conversational Awareness: This is a very smart feature; the headset automatically lowers the music volume as soon as you start talking to someone, so you can hear their voice clearly.

◉ Head Gestures: Now you can answer calls by shaking your head or reject them with a simple gesture, without needing to touch the phone.

◉ Full noise control: where you can seamlessly switch between “noise isolation” mode and “transparency” mode.

◉ Accurate battery information: This displays the charge percentage of each earbud and the case accurately and correctly.

Supported devices: Are your headphones compatible?

From iPhoneIslam.com, a man wearing a gray shirt and a green lanyard tests a white speaker similar to the specifications of AirPods Pro 3 in a crowded tech event environment.

The good news is that the LibrePods app is designed to support almost all Apple headphone models, including the latest versions available on the market so far, which include: AirPods Max, AirPods Pro 2, and AirPods Pro 3. As for older versions of AirPods, some features may not be available depending on the capabilities of the headphones themselves.

But there is good news and bad news, and we'll start with the latter:

The need for "Root Access"

The only obstacle to running the app at its full potential is that it requires root access. This is because the app needs to modify the way Bluetooth works at the system level, due to what the developer described as a "vulnerability in the Android Bluetooth stack." Currently, LibrePods requires your phone to be rooted and have the Xposed Framework installed. This might be a drawback for average users who prefer not to tamper with their phone's operating system.

The good news is:

A great exception for OnePlus and Oppo phone users

From PhoneIslam: Two smartphones side by side: on the left, an Oppo phone with a triple camera; and on the right, a OnePlus phone that displays "Never Settle" on its screen - both are Android compatible and ideal for pairing with AirPods.

The report stated that OnePlus and Oppo phones running ColorOS or OxygenOS 16 can run the app and take advantage of most of its features without needing root.

NoteEven with these phones, some very advanced features, such as customizing transparency mode, may require root privileges.

The LibrePods app is a great gift for the Android community, giving you the freedom to use top-tier headphones with your favorite phones without company restrictions. The app is available as an open-source project, and those interested can download the installation file.APK) directly via the project page on GitHubOr download it directly from here – Link.

Now tell us in the comments: Do you think these features are worth the trouble of rooting your phone? Or are you one of the lucky ones who own Oppo or OnePlus phones?

I hope Apple will update the AirPods system to avoid this issue, so they can buy headphones compatible with their fragile system.

What is the point of the article, Mr. Blog Manager, and the PhoneGram app is exclusive to Apple's system? Who among Android users will read it!
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who uses Apple Watches with Android to send the article to!
Thank you for your effort!

I was hoping to find an app similar to the Samsung Buds 3 app for iPhone.

Thank God I've never used Android and I never will. I tried it when I had an iPhone 5S and I didn't like it. For me, Android is a very unpleasant system 🤮
