The Story of the Book – An Advanced Quran App

One day, more than fifteen years ago, God Almighty bestowed upon us an honor we never expected… to be among The first to carry the Quran into people's pockets Through their smartphones. We saw technology as a great blessing, and that the Quran was the most deserving thing to be served by it.

From the PhoneIslam website: Two open pages of the Quran with Arabic text and two decorative blue borders, and one page partially turned upside down on the left. Page numbers 2 and 3 appear below.

In October 2009, the moment the Apple Store opened its doors to the world, we launched the Quran app. Little did we know then that we were laying the foundation for a revolution in Quran applications. The idea of browsing the Quran as if it were a physical book in your hands was foreign to the world, but for us, it was a dream… and we were even ahead of Apple itself in this regard.

Days passed… and the store was filled with Quran apps. The ideas were similar, and the features were numerous, but something was missing: SpiritWhen we felt the time was right for a new step, we launched the iPhone Islam Quran in 2013. It was a different generation, introducing ideas that later became fundamental to any new Quran application.

Despite not receiving updates for years, the app remained alive. Apple didn't remove it, and many still consider it their favorite companion. This was a clear message to us: what is crafted with care... endures.

When the world changes… the approach must change.

But the world did not stop. Technologies evolved, interfaces were renewed, and operating systems became more beautiful and complex.

It became clear that simply replicating the original book was no longer the best approach. Images had lost their sharpness compared to modern screens, and old designs no longer reflected the times. A new revolution was necessary… a completely different one.

We searched in every direction

We downloaded all the Quran apps on the Apple App Store. We found many features… but mostly lacking refinement, organization, and a user-friendly experience. It was as if everyone was racing to add a new feature without pausing to ask:

Will the user feel at peace? Will they read the Quran with a present heart?

At that moment, we sat asking ourselves a simple question… but it changed everything: What if a company like Apple decided to develop an application for the Quran?

Will the interface be full of menus? Will dozens of options appear with just a touch? Will your eyes be scattered between top, bottom, right, and left? Certainly not.

This is where the book app was born

From the website PhoneIslam: An illustration of an open book displaying Arabic text, with decorative borders on each page. The pages appear to depict verses from a modernized Quran that blends tradition and contemporary design.

We decided to make the app simple… clear… serene. When you tap on a verse, you are gently taught to live in the moment and stay where you need to be: with the word of God.

From PhoneIslam: A digital page from an advanced Quran app that displays Arabic text with decorative borders, featuring Surah Al-Humazah and part of Surah Al-Fil on a mobile phone screen - ideal for reading and exploring the story of the book.

And when you press and hold for a little while, a quick explanation appears, with the option to view and hear the meaning of each word separately… A small window tells you what you need, without interrupting your reading. And if you want more, with one click you have everything you need and more.

From the PhoneIslam website: The smartphone screen displays Arabic text from the Holy Quran with Al-Saadi’s translation and interpretation below, using an advanced Quran application to explore Surah Al-Baqarah and discover Surah Al-Baqarah in depth.

Listen, share, save your position… everything is just a tap away. Everything is there… but without the noise.

We used the latest system technologies: liquid glass effect, simple menus, smooth movements… all to make the application a servant of the Quran, not a distraction from it.

From PhoneIslam: A screenshot of the Quran app dashboard showing 11 minutes of reading per day, 16 sessions, a 4-day reading streak, and 3 consecutive days - track your progress and stay inspired with every story from the book.

Why did we name it the book?

Because the Qur’an is the holiest of books and is more deserving of the name, and because in the current arrangement of the Qur’an, “the Book” appears as the first name you encounter for the Holy Qur’an.

Allah says:
That is the Book about which there is no doubt.

Download the book app now and take advantage of the gift.

This app, like the book itself, has been under development for a long time and is quite expensive, especially since it uses artificial intelligence in some features like search and reading tracking. However, thanks be to God, someone has generously donated the full cost of this app for a whole year. This will be for a limited time, and you are not obligated to accept the gift. If you like the app, you can contribute and pay the subscription fee. If you don't want to pay anything or even receive a gift, that's perfectly fine; all the app's features are yours free of charge. The important thing is that you read the Book of God Almighty; that is the goal.

In conclusion

Later we will publish articles detailing the features of this unique application, but for now we would like you to try it yourself. We know it is very difficult for someone to switch from an application they are used to, but technology is also evolving, and we must try the new and judge whether the experience is better or not. We do not mind if a person uses what they are comfortable with, but trying the new also enriches your life.

We ask God Almighty to make your reading of it a light for your heart, a blessing for your time, and a companion for you on the path of obeying Him, and to accept it from us and from you, and to make this work purely for His noble countenance.

Note: The Kitab app replaces the Lantern Quranic Researcher app, because we have integrated all the features of the Lantern app into the Kitab app. So if you have the Lantern app, just update the app to get the Kitab app.

Despite its simplicity, the app boasts a wealth of features, and it's still in its first version. Much work remains to be done to make it even better, God willing. So please download the app, get in touch with us, and tell us what you liked and how we can improve it.

Peace, mercy and blessings of God be upon you. Has the application been modified to be compatible with ISO 16?

According to Apple's global statistics, only 5.74% of users are still using systems lower than iOS 17.
The difference in development quality between earlier versions of iOS 17 is very large; Apple has updated many APIs and underlying architectures.

If we support older systems for a very small percentage of users, we will expose 95% of users to performance and quality problems, and that is not a wise decision.

The technological world is evolving rapidly, and if we deliberately slow down without a logical reason, our applications will become outdated and unresponsive.
Technical decisions should be based on clear statistics, not assumptions.

I have the (Ayah) app that I love very much, and I've downloaded many Quran apps that I didn't like as much as the Ayah app.
Now I've downloaded your app to see if I'll be able to do without the Aya app.

You will no longer need Aya, because we took all of Aya's features and added to them 🙂
You can also check out our favorite app, Aya.

Thank you for your efforts on this wonderful application. The truth is, browsing it is easy and smooth, and the abundance of Quranic interpretations is a beautiful thing. I am always excited about anything from you, as the updates never stop and your work is perfect, God willing.

May God reward you abundantly for what you have provided us.
It would be great if you included in this book the reading according to the narration of Qalun on the authority of Nafi’, and the reader could choose to change according to the narration that the people of his country read.

Hi
First of all, may God reward you with the best reward for Phone Gram, for the applications you work on, and for this more than wonderful application.

Secondly, may God reward you with the best reward, you who sponsored and donated the cost of this application for a whole year.

Thirdly, thank you for this generous gift, and may God reward you for it.

Fourthly… I have an iPhone 17 Pro Max… and I couldn't download the app… because it says my device is incompatible. I hope you can find a solution to this problem.

May God grant you a thousand blessings.

The app has finally been updated, but why haven't you added a complete library of commentaries so that readers can choose what they want?

Peace, mercy and blessings of God
First, we ask God to place what you have offered on the scales of your good deeds.
Secondly, I have a comment regarding the phrase "developed Quran application." This is not preferred and is inappropriate. It would be better to write "developed application" instead of "Quran." The intention is that the word "developed" refers to the application, not the Book of God.
Thirdly, I have a Kuwaiti Quran application in cooperation with Boubyan Bank, and it is good, but I have no objection to using your application in order to share the reward.

Nothing new... creative as always.
But if there's a possible update that adds tracking of the Quran recitation or something like that, it would be a masterpiece... May God bless your time.

There is a reminder to open the Quran every day. We do not find a goal for completing the Quran. We find its only goal is to draw attention to reading, and this is present. You opened it to complete the Quran, or you opened it to reflect, you are free.

Dear Professors
You are the knights of the field, and you possess knowledge and visions that you can demonstrate through your work in the applications.

We, the users, await the results of your efforts, then we criticize you without thanking you.

But we will undoubtedly pray for you in your absence.

Suggestion
I am a user and I have my preferences for using applications based on the device I own.

I've noticed that developers of Quran apps and prayer time calculators often make their apps comprehensive, adding features beyond their primary function.
This makes it large

I wish the app were dedicated to a specific task, and if it had add-ons, they could be downloaded via a link within the app so that I, as a user, could delete any add-ons I didn't need.

finally
I return to the application of the book that swallowed the lantern, that beautiful, light and great application in what it gives me as a user when I try to search within the Qur’an.

I ask God and then you to return the lantern to the store in its original size.
(I had temporarily deleted it with the intention of re-uploading it, but unfortunately I was unable to.)

May Allah reward you well

May God reward you, unfortunately the Lantern application cannot be restored.
This application has a very reasonable size; the download is 150MB, and depending on your device, it may reach 300MB. These are very reasonable sizes at this time.

Hi
I have been using the "Warsh Quran" application for years.
To be honest, it's much better than your app.
Good luck

Of course, everyone has their own taste. Personally, I don't download apps that don't support the latest Apple interface technologies and modern system features like dynamic widgets and others. I also wanted an app that tracks my reading and tells me when I'm slacking off and when I'm working hard, and that includes artificial intelligence for smart searching.
Some people prefer apps with interfaces similar to web pages, like the one I mentioned from a reputable company like Zad. However, as a long-time Apple user, I'm accustomed to the distinctive look of Apple's apps. I also prefer Islamic apps to have a distinctive interface.
