The iPad Mini has always been the "bad boy" of the Apple family; small in size but with big ambitions. Although Apple recently updated it with the iPad Mini 7, all eyes are already on the next generation, and we're not talking about minor improvements, but a true revolution in screen and performance. It seems Apple is finally realizing that fans of this tiny device deserve "Pro" treatment, even if it doesn't officially carry the name, as reports indicate we'll soon see the first iPad Mini with an OLED screen.
Performance and the beating heart: A19 Pro processor
According to code leaked by Apple “by mistake” (as is typical in the tech world), work is already underway on the next-generation iPad Mini, codenamed J510 and J511. Surprisingly, the device is expected to be powered by the A19 Pro processor, the same technical powerhouse found in the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Air.

This processor, built on a third-generation 3nm process, not only delivers incredible speed but also features a 16-core Neural Engine, making it fully prepared for whatever Apple has in store in the field of artificial intelligence. There are even whispers about the possibility of using the A20 Pro processor built on a 2nm process, but let's be realistic; the A19 Pro will give this small device capabilities far beyond its size, transforming it from a mere reading and entertainment device into a portable workstation in your pocket.
The screen: The final farewell to LCDs
The biggest revolution in the iPad Mini 8 will undoubtedly be its screen. Apple plans to move from traditional LCD technology to OLED. This move means a lot: more accurate colors, true blacks, and contrast that makes content seem to leap off the screen. And since we're talking about OLED, it's very likely we'll finally see ProMotion technology with a 120Hz refresh rate, putting an end to the "jelly scrolling" issue that some users complained about in previous models.

Some reports suggest that Apple may slightly increase the screen size from the current 8.3 inches to 8.7 inches, thanks to reduced bezels. However, Apple is expected to use single-layer LTPS OLED panels to cut costs, which may result in slightly less brightness than the iPad Pro's screens, but it will still be a significant upgrade compared to what we have today.
New design and "amphibious" water resistance
Have you ever dreamed of using your iPad Mini in the bath or by the pool without worry? It seems Apple has heard you. Reports indicate that Apple is working on making the next iPad Mini more water and dust resistant, approaching iPhone standards. But how will it do that with the speaker grilles? The answer lies in innovation.

Apple plans to replace traditional speakers with a new vibration system that emits sound through the surface of the device itself, eliminating the need for conventional speaker holes. This not only reduces water entry points but also gives the device a sleeker, more streamlined look. Imagine a tablet with a completely smooth surface that delivers stunning surround sound; this is the future Apple is aiming for.
When will we get our hands on it? And what's the expected price?
If you're expecting it tomorrow, you'll have to be patient. Production of the iPad Mini's OLED panels is expected to begin in the second half of 2025, making the likely launch date the second half of 2026. While some are hoping for an earlier release, Apple prefers to wait and see to ensure the quality of the new displays that Samsung will supply.

As for the price, modern technology comes at a cost. The iPad Mini OLED is expected to increase by approximately $100 from its current price of $499, starting at $599. While this may seem like a high price for a device of this size, considering its upcoming "professional" specifications, it appears Apple intends to position it as a premium option for those seeking ultimate power in the smallest possible package.
