Trump: Apple will manufacture its chips in America in collaboration with Intel

From the Phonegram website: An orange smartphone is shown with three rear cameras and an «Intel Inside» logo next to a large «Intel» logo, highlighting the most important technology news in the weekly sideline on a striking blue background.

US President Trump revealed that Apple has agreed with Intel to manufacture some of its chips within the United States, a piece of news that pushed Intel’s stock up by 9% and Apple’s stock by a smaller margin. The two companies have not officially confirmed the matter yet, but previous reports spoke of a preliminary agreement in which Intel would manufacture processors with Apple’s design, similar to what TSMC currently does, and this may include some simpler iPad and Mac chips. The move comes at a time when Apple is trying to reduce its complete reliance on Taiwan’s TSMC, after CEO Tim Cook indicated that iPhone 17 supplies were affected by the difficulty of securing enough chips, especially since the rising demand for AI chips is pushing TSMC to allocate a larger portion of its capacity to this field at the expense of consumer chips. In contrast, Intel is witnessing a strong comeback led by its new CEO Lip-Bu Tan, with its stock jumping more than 460% over the past year after years of decline.

The new iPhone Air gets a dual camera

From the Phonegram website: Two white iPhone Air 2 smartphones are shown, one displaying the back with two cameras and smaller sensors, and the other displaying the front screen on a yellow-to-pink gradient background.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is preparing to launch a new version of the iPhone Air in the spring of 2027, including the most important update users are waiting for: a second wide-angle lens added to the current wide lens, in a move that addresses the biggest criticism directed at the current device, which was outperformed by the cheaper iPhone 17 camera that comes with two cameras by default. The new design, which has entered advanced testing stages, maintains almost the same shape as the current version, while Apple works to improve battery life either by increasing its capacity or through the new A20 processor made with 2nm technology, which is more energy-efficient.

Apple records every click in the App Store

From the Phonegram website: A table showing search terms typed sequentially, the date and time of the event, the operating system version 26.5.0, and the action «Search» — perfect for tracking queries like «Tech News» or «Weekly Summary».

Privacy and cybersecurity researchers revealed that the “Personalized Recommendations” feature recently launched by Apple in the App Store, which suggests apps based on each user’s interests and behavior, actually relies on comprehensive tracking of every action they take within the store, as the company records every click and even their typing speed, without any option to disable this tracking. The “Mysk” team explained that the data the store sends to Apple during every search—such as searching for the name “Tim Cook,” for example—goes beyond normal search results to include precise analytics about user behavior, which is the same data that appeared within the full version of account information that any user can request from Apple via its official privacy page. Critics argue that this type of continuous tracking should be an option that the user agrees to themselves, not a feature enabled automatically without permission as Apple has done this time.

Snap launches its smart glasses “Specs”

From the Phonegram website: Black rectangular glasses with thick frames, with a slight blue reflection on the lenses, and the «SPECS» logo on the arm with the phrase «LOS ANGELES» inside the arm — perfect for following the week's news even if you are on the sidelines.

Snap has unveiled its new smart glasses, “Specs,” which are transparent glasses that combine augmented reality and artificial intelligence for a price of up to $2,195. They allow the user to watch videos and display the phone or computer screen directly in front of their eyes, in addition to using interactive Snapchat filters and controlling them with gestures and voice commands. The glasses are characterized by their light weight and a battery that lasts up to four hours and can be charged while worn, compared to just 45 minutes in the previous experimental version. With this launch, Snap surpasses major tech companies, including Apple, which will not launch its first smart glasses until late 2027 with simpler capabilities limited to artificial intelligence without a display screen.

Apple prepares to use A22 Pro chips with 1.4nm technology

From the Phonegram website: A black square chip bearing the silver «Apple» logo, placed in the middle of a dark background, perfect for displaying «Weekly News» or the most prominent news on the sidelines.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple plans to move from 2nm chips to a newer and more advanced 1.4nm technology, starting with the high-end iPhone category in 2028. TSMC will handle the manufacturing of the bulk of these chips, while Apple is considering using Intel to manufacture a portion of them as well, continuing its plan to diversify supply sources after the high demand for AI chips caused TSMC to restrict supplies to phone companies, including the delay in iPhone 17 supplies previously.

The iPhone 18 Pro, Pro Max, and the foldable phone models will receive 2nm chips this year, followed by next year’s chips with the same technology, before Apple moves to 1.4nm technology in 2028, which promises 15% better performance or up to 30% power savings. If Intel, led by its CEO Lip-Bu Tan, succeeds in developing its own 1.4nm technology on time, it may take over the manufacturing of the budget-category chips used in iPads and Macs, and perhaps non-Pro iPhone chips in the future.

The 20th Anniversary iPhone in two sizes arrives with the second generation of the foldable phone

From the Phonegram website: A hand holding a transparent liquid glass smartphone, a transparent glass iPhone with app icons displayed on the screen, and the large text "2027" appears in the background.

According to a Bloomberg report, Apple is preparing to intensify work on the 20th Anniversary iPhone expected to be launched next year with a design that is almost bezel-less thanks to a curved glass screen that covers all sides. It will be available in two sizes close to the size of the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max (6.3 and 6.9 inches), to be launched alongside the second generation of the foldable phone. All three devices will run on an A21 chip with 2nm technology, while the iPhone 19 will get a different basic version of the same chip. As for this year, the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max versions will get an A20 Pro processor with 2nm technology, in Apple’s first move away from 3nm technology in many years, while the regular version of the iPhone 18 will be delayed until the spring of 2027 with a less powerful A20 processor that still uses the same new technology.

Siri AI may ask you to take a break and remind you that it is not a human

Information found within the developer beta of iOS 27 indicates that Apple may add a new feature to Siri that displays a message to users after long conversations, advising them to take a break and confirming that Siri is just an AI tool and not a real person. The potential message explains that the user has spent several hours in conversation and suggests they stop for a while, with the possibility of returning later to continue the discussion. This move is part of a growing trend in the AI sector to limit excessive use and encourage more balanced habits, although Apple has not officially announced this feature yet.

Siri in iOS 27 hides inside the Dynamic Island and may become circular in the iPhone 18

Apple introduced a new design for Siri in iOS 27, where it appears as a glowing bubble emerging from the Dynamic Island, which helps to hide the cutouts in the screen elegantly. However, rumors indicate that the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro phones may get a smaller Dynamic Island thanks to moving some Face ID components under the screen, which may allow Siri to appear as a full circular shape instead of the current pill shape. If these leaks are true, Siri’s design on the iPhone may become consistent with its circular look already used on iPad, Mac, and Vision Pro devices.

Miscellaneous News

◉ Tim Cook announced that rising Apple device prices have become inevitable due to the significant increase in the cost of memory and storage chips, as the company can no longer absorb these costs alone. Devices like the iPhone 18 Pro, Mac, and iPad are expected to be more expensive than previous versions, especially with supply shortages and high demand from AI companies. Cook confirmed that Apple is trying to protect consumers as much as possible, but is forced to raise prices to maintain its profits.

◉ Microsoft tests showed that a browser based on the “Chromium” engine outperforms Safari by approximately 29% in performance testing on iOS, in addition to better results in other benchmarks such as JavaScript and graphics. The reason is that Apple requires all browsers to use the WebKit engine, making Chrome and Firefox on the iPhone just modified versions of Safari. Tech organizations believe that this restriction has harmed users for years and are demanding that the European Union force Apple to remove obstacles to alternative engines to develop a faster and freer web experience.

◉ Apple stopped support for the AFP protocol in macOS 27 Golden Gate, which means that Time Capsule devices are no longer compatible with the Time Machine backup tool after nearly twenty years of use. These old devices rely on technologies that no longer meet modern security standards such as SMBv2 and TLS 1.2, so they will not work with the new system except through unofficial solutions like the TimeCapsuleSMB project, which adds modern support for the protocol. Intel Mac users can continue with macOS 26 and use Time Capsule, while Apple Silicon owners will need alternatives such as external storage units or modern NAS devices.

◉ WhatsApp is working on a new feature that allows sending text messages that can be read only once, then disappear immediately like photos, videos, and voice messages. When writing the message, the user will be able to select the “Send as View Once” option, and the recipient will not be able to copy, forward, or even screenshot it. This feature is still under development and will be available in individual and group chats on iPhone and Android, but it will not be available in channels.

◉ Apple explained that the macOS system now displays a warning window when attempting to paste suspicious commands into the Terminal app, to protect users from instructions that scammers might request via websites, messages, or calls. The warning appears especially when copying commands from external sources and prevents them from being executed automatically, with a “Paste Anyway” option if the user wants to proceed. In the event that commands containing confirmed malware are detected, the system blocks them permanently without providing an override option, which enhances the security level and reduces the risk of fraud.

From the Phonegram website: A macOS warning appears regarding the possibility of malware blocking paste operations at the top of the «Terminal» window, with a background showing a lake and rocky mountain, while the phrase «Weekly News» appears faintly on the edge of the screen.

This is not all the news on the sidelines, but we have brought you the most important of it. It is not necessary for non-specialists to occupy themselves with every detail; there are more important things you do in your life, so do not let devices occupy you or distract you from your life and duties. Know that technology exists to make life easier for you and help you with it, and if it steals your life and you become preoccupied with it, then there is no need for it.
