Siri Reinvents Itself: A Standalone App and Revolutionary Design in iOS 27

Siri, the friend we ask about the weather only for her to sometimes give us search results completely unrelated to the topic, seems to have finally decided to enroll in “AI School” seriously, returning with a completely new face. According to the latest leaks, Apple is currently working on transforming Siri into a separate, comprehensive app in iOS 27, entering the arena to compete directly with the big players like ChatGPT and Claude—a move that proves Apple will no longer settle for being just a traditional voice assistant.

Siri as a Standalone App: Goodbye to Randomness

Mark Gurman of Bloomberg, the man who seems to hold the keys to Apple’s secret offices, confirmed that Apple is currently testing a version of Siri that comes in the form of a separate chatbot. Instead of Siri appearing as a colored circle at the bottom of the screen and disappearing as soon as you touch anything, she will have a dedicated space that allows you to return to your previous conversations, save them, and even “favorite” the answers you liked. The app’s interface will look very similar to the iMessage app, with conversations appearing inside elegant chat bubbles.

The app will provide options to view previous conversations either in a list or a grid, and there will be an internal search engine to search through your history with Siri. When you start a new conversation, you will find Siri suggesting topics or questions to get you started, just as we do with current smart tools. This shift reflects Apple’s desire to make Siri a true hub for information and productivity, rather than just a tool for setting alarms.

Integration with Dynamic Island and the “Ask Siri” Button

The new design doesn’t stop at the app; it extends to the entire system interface. Apple is currently testing amazing integration with the Dynamic Island. When you ask Siri for something, the Dynamic Island will glow with a “Searching…” label inside it, and once finished, the island will expand to turn into a large, transparent panel that displays results clearly. If you swipe the menu down, you will enter text-chat mode directly.

Apple also plans to add an “Ask Siri” button within other app menus, making it easier for you to send text or files directly to Siri to request summaries or analysis. The iPhone keyboard will be no exception, as it will receive a “Write with Siri” option that will invoke smart writing tools to help you draft your messages professionally.

True Apple Intelligence Finally Arrives

The features we were previously promised in Apple Intelligence will get a major boost in iOS 27. Siri will be able to use your personal data and the context of what you are doing to understand your requests more deeply. Siri will also be able to “see” what is on your screen to perform complex tasks within and between apps. All of this is expected to be officially unveiled at the upcoming WWDC developer conference on June 8, 2026.

Do you think turning Siri into a standalone app will make her a true competitor to ChatGPT?
