iOS 27 Camera App Gets ‘Siri’ Mode for Reading Food Labels and Visual Intelligence

It seems Apple is not ready to stop impressing us with the capabilities of its “Apple Intelligence.” The next stop for the iOS 27 system is the Camera app, which will transform from a simple lens for taking photos into a fully intelligent personal assistant. According to the latest reports, Apple plans to integrate a special Siri mode directly into the traditional shooting options, placing it right alongside “Portrait” and “Panorama” modes.

“Siri” Mode: More Than Just a Voice Assistant

In iOS 27, access to “Visual Intelligence” features will no longer be limited to hidden gestures or long-pressing the camera control button, which many may be unaware of. Instead, users will find a dedicated mode labeled “Siri.” Once switched to it, the traditional shutter button will change to display the colorful “Apple Intelligence” logo, signaling that the Phonegram is now on high alert to understand what the lens sees.

This move aims to make the technology more intuitive and accessible to the average user. Instead of wondering “How do I do this?”, the option will be right before your eyes, just as if you were selecting video mode. The idea here is to integrate artificial intelligence into the core of the daily user experience rather than as a complex additional layer, with the new interface being woven into the Camera app instead of the current standalone experience.

Calorie Tracking with a Single Touch

One of the most prominent features coming in this new mode is the ability to scan “food labels” on products. Imagine you are at the store and want to know the impact of a specific meal on your diet; all you have to do is point the camera at the label, and the system will automatically analyze calories and macronutrients like protein, carbohydrates, and fats, then log them directly into the “Health” app.

It doesn’t stop at health; code snippets have revealed additional capabilities including:

  • Adding Contacts: Scanning phone numbers and addresses from paper business cards or printed materials and adding them instantly to contacts.
  • Wallet App: Capturing information from paper event tickets and membership cards and converting them into smart digital copies within the Wallet app.
  • Advanced Search: Continuing plant and animal recognition features, with the ability to send visual information directly to ChatGPT or Google Lens.

The Reveal of the Next Revolution

From Phonegram: The image displays the text 'WWDC26' on a black background, with the '26' brightly lit, indicating potential announcements like the iOS 27 system during the event.

Apple is expected to officially unveil these revolutionary features during the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC 2026), which kicks off on June 8, 2026. It appears the primary focus of iOS 27 will be making Siri and artificial intelligence the backbone of every action you take on your device, and the Camera app is the perfect interface for this journey that will once again change our perception of smartphones.

Do you think the calorie scanning feature via the camera will encourage you to use visual intelligence features on a daily basis?
