With the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2026 approaching on June 8th, all eyes are on the new systems the company will unveil. Among these, Apple Watch enthusiasts are anticipating watchOS 27, which brings a host of long-awaited improvements and new features. Although the primary focus this year may be on stability and performance, leaks reveal some exciting additions that will make your smartwatch even smarter and more powerful.

Improved Heart Rate Tracking

According to a report by renowned journalist Mark Gurman from Bloomberg, watchOS 27 will include notable improvements to the heart rate tracking feature. While the report did not delve into the precise details of how these improvements work, it is expected that Apple will introduce more accurate algorithms for monitoring physical exertion and daily rest, providing users with deeper analysis of their athletic and daily health data.

This move comes at a time of intensifying competition with rival health devices like the Oura Ring and the Whoop band, pushing Apple to strengthen its leadership in the physical health sector through its smartwatch.

A New Modular Watch Face for Everyone

One of the most exciting rumors is Apple’s intention to introduce a new watch face based on the famous “Modular Ultra” design, currently exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra. This new face will serve as a simplified version, allowing users of standard Apple Watches, such as the Apple Watch 11, to benefit from an interface rich in information and complications, distributed elegantly and practically on the screen without needing to own the larger Ultra model.

From Phonegram.com, this smartwatch with a white band features a digital watch face and various widgets on the screen, enhanced with the latest watchOS updates to provide a seamless experience.

This step will undoubtedly please millions of users who prefer the classic and elegant design of the base series but are also eager to take advantage of the professional and practical display interfaces that characterize the Ultra models.

More Apple Intelligence Capabilities

In the current watchOS 26, Apple Intelligence features available on the watch when paired with an iPhone 15 Pro or later are limited to a number of features such as Workout Buddy, real-time translation in messages, and notification summaries. With Apple’s promise to deliver massive advancements in artificial intelligence during WWDC 2026, it is almost certain that watchOS 27 will receive a generous share of these smart capabilities powered by the intelligence of the paired phone.

Whether it is through improving interaction with the smart assistant Siri to become faster and more context-aware, or providing personalized athletic and health analyses based on your daily behavior, the future holds a real leap in how you interact with your watch.

Expanding Satellite Connectivity Features

The Apple Watch Ultra 3 features built-in support for satellite connectivity, allowing for emergency messages and location sharing via the “Find My” network and Messages even without an iPhone nearby. With rumors suggesting that the upcoming iPhone operating system, iOS 27, will contain up to five new satellite features, it is expected that support for two of these features will extend to watchOS 27: Apple Maps via satellite and support for sending photos in messages via satellite.

Amazon recently announced its plans to acquire Globalstar, the satellite service provider for Apple, having signed an agreement to ensure the continuity and development of satellite connectivity features for current and future Apple devices, ensuring a promising future for these vital technologies.

Focusing on Stability and Performance First

Mark Gurman also indicated that Apple is focusing heavily in watchOS 27 on “stability, performance, and minor improvements” rather than introducing revolutionary features that might affect the smoothness of the system. This means the update will focus on closing gaps, fixing annoying software bugs, and improving power consumption and battery life.

The first developer beta is expected to be released immediately after the conference ends on June 8th, followed by the public beta in July, with the system officially launching to all users this coming September in conjunction with the unveiling of the new generation of watches.
