Leaked image reveals a massive battery capacity upgrade for the iPhone 18 Pro Max

The battery and its operational life have always been at the top of every iPhone user’s wish list. Despite continuous improvements in processor efficiency, the actual physical size of the battery remains the deciding factor for those who spend long periods away from charging outlets. It seems that fans of large screens are in for an exceptional upgrade, as recent leaks supported by live images reveal Apple’s intention to significantly increase the battery capacity of the iPhone 18 Pro Max compared to previous generations.

Leaked image confirms what was circulated in databases

The story began to unfold via a screenshot from the Chinese 3C quality certification database, shared by well-known leaker Digital Chat Station, which indicated that Apple’s upcoming phones would have varying battery capacities depending on whether they have a traditional SIM card slot or rely exclusively on eSIM. Now, new images have appeared on the Korean platform Naver, showcasing the actual battery from multiple angles.

Specification label on the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery

The close-up image of the battery clearly shows the approved specification label, recording a capacity of 5391 mAh at a standard voltage of 3.907V. This figure perfectly matches the data for the Chinese version equipped with a physical SIM slot, which lends great credibility to the figures associated with the global and US eSIM versions, which are expected to reach a capacity of 5567 mAh thanks to the extra space inside the chassis.

Comparing capacities between generations: A leap for the Max and stability for the regular Pro

A capacity of 5567 mAh represents a 10 to 12 percent jump for the iPhone 18 Pro Max compared to the previous generation, a percentage that exceeds the increase seen in the iPhone 17 Pro Max. However, it seems that the iPhone 18 Pro model with its 6.3-inch screen will not receive the same share of upgrades, as data indicates its battery capacity will remain very close to the previous generation without a tangible leap.

Series Pro Model (eSIM) Pro Max Model (eSIM)
iPhone 16 3582 mAh 4685 mAh
iPhone 17 4252 mAh 5088 mAh
iPhone 18 (Leaked) 4288 mAh 5567 mAh

The credit for these larger capacities goes to Apple’s decision to take advantage of the removal of the traditional SIM tray in many markets, including the Arab Gulf countries (Saudi Arabia, UAE, Kuwait, Qatar, Bahrain, and Oman), which have switched to models that rely entirely on eSIM, allowing every cubic millimeter inside the device to be utilized for power cells.

Additional factors to enhance performance and battery life

The increase in the physical size of the battery is not Apple’s only weapon this year; the A20 Pro chip, manufactured with newer technologies, is expected to offer superior efficiency in managing power consumption. Added to this are leaks suggesting the potential integration of Apple’s internally developed 5G modem, codenamed C2, which is designed to reduce power drain while connected to cellular networks compared to previous solutions.

All these factors combined mean that the iPhone 18 Pro Max is poised to offer a noticeable difference and a user experience that could last for days under moderate use, reinforcing its position as the first choice for users seeking the highest possible operational efficiency in a smartphone.

Do you think completely abandoning the traditional SIM slot is worth getting a larger battery in your phone?
