Although the iPhone Duo stole the show and a large part of the spotlight during Apple’s event, the true cornerstone and the company’s biggest bet always remain its flagship devices: the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max. After long months of worrying rumors that predicted sharp price hikes due to the global memory cost crisis, Apple defied expectations with a slight increase of only $100, offering us phones that take the professional user experience to a whole new level in every sense of the word.
A Revolution in Photography: Variable Aperture and Full Manual Control
Pro model cameras have always been among the best on the market, but this year’s phones may be the first that can truly compete with standalone professional digital cameras. The secret lies in the addition of a mechanical variable aperture in the main camera, allowing for precise control over the amount of light while achieving true optical depth of field and physical subject isolation without relying exclusively on AI tricks and computational photography.
The lens offers four fixed stop levels including f/1.48, f/1.8, f/2.8, and up to f/4.0, a fundamental shift compared to the fixed f/1.78 aperture in the iPhone 17 Pro. This versatility gives the photographer unprecedented freedom to handle intense lighting or capture soft night details and natural isolation that was not possible to achieve on any previous iPhone.
Apple didn’t stop there; it also provided a full professional manual mode called “Pro controls” within the Camera app, allowing for the adjustment of aperture, shutter speed, and white balance, with a live Histogram display just like in professional cameras. Apple also provided a special API for developers to enable third-party camera apps to take advantage of these manual settings, a feature that remained exclusive to the iPhone 18 Pro models within the iOS 27 system.
In addition, there is a new image sensor that enhances photo quality, alongside the third generation of Photographic Styles, which allow for adjusting the texture and grain of the image for more creative expression. Apple Reference Image Technology: Real Protection Against Image Forgery
In an era where distinguishing between reality and AI has become complex, Apple unveiled an exclusive feature for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max called “Apple Reference Image.” The feature relies on digitally signing pixels the moment they are captured via the main camera sensor, and then using the Private Cloud Compute architecture to create a tamper-proof reference image.
This encrypted technology proves that the image was indeed captured with an iPhone camera and has not undergone any modification by generative AI tools. These images can be verified and authenticated via any device running iOS 27, iPadOS 27, or macOS 27 Golden Gate.
Dynamic Island: Narrower Design and More Tasks
Although we have not yet reached the point of hiding cameras and face sensors entirely under the screen, Apple has re-engineered the Dynamic Island to be smaller in terms of the actual cutout area on the screen.
On the software level, the Dynamic Island is now capable of displaying three Live Activities at the same time in separate sections, allowing you to track your trip, match scores, and the timer all at once without needing to switch between apps.
A20 Pro Processor and C2 Chip: A Quantum Leap in Performance and Cooling
Beating inside the two devices is Apple’s latest A20 Pro processor, the first iPhone processor to be manufactured using advanced 2nm technology. The processor offers 50% higher memory bandwidth compared to the A19 Pro, along with a six-core CPU equipped with integrated neural accelerators, and a seven-core GPU that delivers up to 40% faster performance.
The big leap came in the Neural Engine, as the processor contains a dual neural engine comprising 32 cores (16 cores per side), which doubles the on-device AI processing capabilities, mimicking what the M6 chip offered for Mac devices. To ensure the stability of this fierce hardware, Apple adopted an advanced Vapor Chamber cooling system that connects directly to the processor and memory, resulting in a 40% improvement in sustained performance under heavy load before needing to throttle frequencies due to heat.
The phones were also equipped with Apple’s new C2 modem, which supports 5G mmWave networks, provides faster upload speeds and higher cellular signal stability, while reducing power consumption by about 15% compared to the C1X modem.
Super Battery and 60W Charging
Thanks to the incredible efficiency of the A20 Pro chip and larger batteries, the series has achieved an unprecedented leap in battery life; the small iPhone 18 Pro offers the same battery performance as the previous iPhone 17 Pro Max, with up to 36 hours of video playback and an average of 24 hours of typical use on a single charge.
As for the giant iPhone 18 Pro Max, it raises the bar to 45 hours of video playback or 30 full hours of typical use. To support these huge capacities, Apple increased the wired charging speed to reach 50% in just 15 minutes when using a 60W power adapter. Furthermore, just five minutes of charging gives you up to 6 hours of video viewing on the Pro model and 7 hours on the Pro Max model.

The two phones are available in four attractive colors, with the elegant black returning after its absence in the previous generation, alongside the classic silver, and two brand-new colors: Glacier and Burgundy.
Pre-orders for the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max begin on Saturday, September 12, and the prices and options are as follows:
