For many years, the traditional Phone app remained just a digital keypad and a simple contact list. Despite many preferring instant messaging over voice calls, Apple has begun reinventing the calling experience from the ground up. Following notable features in the iOS 26 update like call screening and automatic hold, the iOS 27 update introduces a smart new addition to the Phone app called “Call Context,” which has quickly proven to be one of the most useful additions thanks to its masterful utilization of artificial intelligence capabilities.

The Call Context feature relies on the Apple Intelligence platform, and its primary function is to anticipate your needs when you call corporate numbers, commercial entities, and support centers. Instead of having to scramble and quickly search within the Email or Messages app to find a booking number or confirmation code while talking to a service representative, the system automatically captures this data and displays it directly on the call screen.
Apple explains that the system proactively scans for relevant information across your various apps. For example, if you call an airline to review your ticket, the iPhone recognizes the entity’s number and retrieves the booking confirmation code from relevant emails so it is ready for you the moment you need it, without any extra effort to search or switch between apps.
A real-world experience that simplifies routine procedures
In actual use, the feature demonstrates exceptional accuracy and smoothness. When calling an airline to make a flight change, the booking data appears immediately on the interface. The iPhone system even offers a spoken option that helps you read the confirmation number clearly to the service agent, saving time and preventing errors in dictating long strings of numbers and letters.
The system is also intelligent enough to handle complex scenarios; if you have more than one booking or scheduled flight with the same company, iOS 27 arranges the data in stacked cards below the main card, so you can switch between different bookings with a single quick tap if the first data shown is not what is required for the current call.
Compatible devices and available languages
The Call Context feature is available in its first phase in English only and is limited to devices that support Apple Intelligence processing features, including compatible iPhone, iPad, Mac, and Apple Watch models.
