Rumors surrounding Apple’s foldable phone, tentatively called the “iPhone Fold” (or perhaps “iPhone Ultra” as some recent leaks suggest), have long been a hot topic for tech enthusiasts. Despite constant talk about production challenges and the hurdles Apple faces with hinges and display screens, analysts agree that the phone is still on track to be unveiled this coming September. Today, we got what might be the first realistic look at this highly anticipated device, thanks to a leaked image shared by social media users.

First realistic leak of the “iPhone Fold” on Weibo

The famous leaker known as Ice Universe posted an interesting image on the Chinese platform “Weibo,” claiming it to be a white prototype of Apple’s upcoming foldable phone. The image shows a design that opens like a book, which aligns perfectly with previous reports suggesting that Apple prefers this cross-folding style—similar to the design of the Google Pixel Fold or the OnePlus Open—rather than the vertical design of the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold phones.

The dimensions of the device in the image look very logical and match what we have heard previously; reports indicate that the phone will come with a 5.5-inch external screen and a 7.8-inch flexible internal screen when opened, giving it an aspect ratio very similar to the iPad mini.
Is it a real image or just a commercial dummy?
Despite the excitement surrounding such leaks, caution is always necessary with Apple rumors. The posted image has relatively low resolution, and there are details that raise doubts about its authenticity; for example, the rear camera array looks like a piece added superficially rather than integrated elegantly like the streamlined “bump” design expected in the upcoming iPhone 17 Pro or iPhone Air. Also, the existence of a single image from one angle raises questions; if the device were real and in the leaker’s hand, we would have seen more photos and different angles.

Although there is talk about Apple facing some technical difficulties regarding hinge durability and the design of printed circuit boards, these issues do not seem to be delaying the official announcement of the phone at the famous September event. With an expected price that may start at around $2,000 USD, and camera specifications that might be less advanced than traditional Pro phones, the device will be aimed at an elite segment of users looking for distinction, meaning Apple may not have to worry much about meeting massive demand initially.
