We are now only a few months away from the global developers conference WWDC 2026, the event where Apple will unveil iOS 27. If the leaks are true, it looks like this update will be the version we were hoping for in iOS 26, but Apple chose to take its time (as usual). With the postponement of the advanced Siri version and a focus on new hardware, iOS 27 seems set to bring a real revolution in how we interact with our devices, especially with Apple entering the world of foldable phones.

Foldable iPhone: A new system for a larger screen
Apple plans to launch the first foldable iPhone next September, expected to be called “iPhone Fold”. Leaks point to an outer display of 5.5 inches when folded, expanding to a massive 7.8‑inch screen when opened like a book. Naturally, a screen this size needs a smart operating system that knows how to make the most of every inch, and that’s where iOS 27 comes in, redesigning the UI to fit this transformation.

The device will run a clever blend of the iPhone and iPad interfaces, but it will still run iOS and won’t directly support iPad apps. When opened, a multitasking UI will appear, allowing two apps side‑by‑side, with a side bar in Apple apps to ease navigation. Apple chose a 4:3 aspect ratio similar to the iPad, making reading and work more productive than what we see from competitors today.
Siri becomes smarter (finally!) with help from Google
We all know Siri has needed a “brain transplant” for years, and iOS 27 appears to be the deadline for that. Apple faces challenges developing Apple Intelligence features for Siri, which may push the most important features into this update. Interestingly, Apple is collaborating with Google to use Gemini models to build an advanced chatbot inside Siri, operating similarly to ChatGPT and Claude.

The new Siri will be able to understand personal context dramatically; it will know who “Eric” is, the person who emailed you last week, and it will be able to search your messages, photos, and files to answer complex questions like “Where is the recipe Eric sent me?”. Siri will also have “screen awareness”: if you’re looking at a photo and want to send it to a friend, just say “Send this to them” and the system will instantly understand what you mean.
Deeper integration with apps and refreshed design
Siri won’t just answer questions; it will become a true executive assistant. You’ll be able to request complex tasks like “Edit this photo then send it to so‑and‑so”, or “Move this file from Notes to Mail”. This deep integration will make Siri an inseparable part of the system rather than a noisy voice add‑on that sometimes appears by mistake.

On the design side, rumors speak of a redesign of the Siri interface to be more lively and interactive, perhaps even an animated version resembling the Finder icon on macOS. iOS 27 will also include a new developer framework called Core AI, replacing Core ML, allowing developers to embed AI models in their apps more easily, meaning third‑party apps will become much smarter.
Satellite features and performance improvements
Apple isn’t stopping at AI; it’s also expanding satellite features to include Apple Maps and sending photos via satellite when cellular coverage is unavailable. Reports indicate iOS 27 could be a “Snow Leopard”‑style update, meaning the focus will be on cleaning up code, removing legacy, fragile features, improving system stability, and noticeably extending battery life.
- Apple Maps via satellite.
- Send photos in messages via satellite.
- AI‑powered calendar app.
- Advanced health features offering personalized medical advice.
