Apple’s name has long been synonymous with revolutionary design and visual aesthetics that changed the face of consumer technology forever. But let’s be honest: has Apple maintained this unique identity after the departure of Steve Jobs and Tim Cook taking the helm? This question might seem unsettling to the company’s fans, but the bitter truth is that Apple has gradually shifted from a company driven by a passion for design to an empire governed by numbers and logistics supply chains. Now, as a new era approaches, it seems we are on the cusp of a new golden age that may restore Apple’s old luster, thanks to one person: John Ternus.

Today, the industrial design team no longer has a real seat at the major decision-making table at Apple. The team has lost much of its historical influence and credibility, turning into a department that executes ideas rather than generating them. Even Evans Hankey, who took over leadership of the division after Ive’s departure in 2019, was not a designer in the traditional sense but a developer, and she did not possess the weight her predecessor enjoyed within Apple’s inner circle of decision-makers.
