A new era in Apple’s history has begun following a quiet, official update to the company’s executive leadership page. John Ternus has officially assumed the role of CEO, succeeding Tim Cook, who has stepped down from his executive position to take the seat of Executive Chairman of the Board. These major changes were not limited to the top level; they were accompanied by a broad reorganization of several key leadership positions and the departure of veteran figures from the direct spotlight.
Ternus at the helm and the reshuffling of the executive team
With John Ternus rising to lead the company, he left his previous position as Senior Vice President of Hardware Engineering vacant. Apple quickly resolved this by appointing veteran Johny Srouji as Chief Hardware Officer, bringing hardware technologies and engineering under his umbrella in a move that strengthens Apple’s focus on integrating its processors with future device designs.
The updates also included the departure of Katherine Adams, the former head of government affairs and general counsel, following her retirement. Her duties have been fully transferred to Jennifer Newstead, formerly of Meta, who has become responsible for Apple’s legal affairs and government policies globally amidst increasing regulatory challenges.

Tim Cook has not left the scene entirely; he has moved to the seat of Executive Chair, while former board chairman Arthur Levinson has transitioned to the position of Lead Independent Director. To celebrate this transition, Apple updated the Board of Directors section on its website to include official headshots of all members for the first time, replacing what was previously just a text list of names.
Expectations suggest that Cook’s role as Executive Chair will keep him involved in major strategic files, particularly geopolitical negotiations and communication with decision-makers around the world, giving John Ternus enough space to focus on the engineering side and the innovation of new products within the halls of Apple Park.
Phil Schiller steps back from managing the App Store and conferences
Another notable development is the quiet reduction of daily responsibilities for Phil Schiller, who holds the title of Apple Fellow; he has stepped down from managing the App Store and organizing Apple’s press conferences. Schiller, who has been gradually retiring since 2020, had retained these sensitive files in recognition of his decades of experience.
With Schiller stepping back, responsibility for the App Store returns directly to Eddy Cue, Senior Vice President of Services, bringing the store back under his former purview, which he managed between 2011 and 2015. Carson Oliver will continue to manage the store’s business under Cue’s direct supervision, while Ann Tai continues to oversee the file for alternative app stores under Oliver.
As for Apple’s famous conferences and product reveal events, their management has been fully transferred to the public relations and communications team led by Kristin Huguet Quayle, with Nola Weinstein taking executive oversight of upcoming events.
