Imagine you are walking down the street holding your iPhone, and suddenly, someone rushes past, snatches the phone from your hand, and disappears in the blink of an eye! It’s a real nightmare, isn’t it? The biggest problem isn’t the price of the phone itself, but that the phone is unlocked at that moment, giving the thief full access to your data, photos, and banking apps before you can even process what happened. Fortunately, it seems Apple is currently working on a smart and revolutionary solution to prevent this nightmare entirely.

A New Smart Feature to Protect the iPhone from Snatch-and-Grab Theft
Apple already offers many great security features to help you track a lost or stolen iPhone, such as Activation Lock, Find My, and the ability to remotely wipe device data. However, the problem lies with professional thieves; they exploit the moment you are using the phone while it is unlocked, snatching it and running away before you can lock it manually.

To protect your personal data in such critical situations, reports indicate that Apple is developing a new security feature that automatically locks the iPhone as soon as it senses a snatching event. The new feature, revealed by 9to5Mac, will ensure your privacy is protected even if the thief manages to escape with the device.
How Will the New Feature Work? Technology Against Thieves
The idea is not entirely new in the world of phones; Google offers a similar anti-theft feature on Android phones known as “Theft Detection Lock.” Apple’s version is expected to work in a similar, more advanced way; the iPhone will rely on data from the built-in accelerometer and gyroscope sensors to detect the sudden and violent movement that occurs during a snatching, causing the phone to immediately lock itself automatically.

It won’t stop there; leaks suggest that Apple will also use technology to measure the distance between the iPhone and its paired Apple Watch. If the phone suddenly moves away from the watch beyond a certain distance, the system will consider this a strong signal that a theft has occurred and will lock the device immediately. After that, the Stolen Device Protection feature will automatically take effect, meaning the thief will not be able to change sensitive settings or access your accounts except via Face ID or fingerprint, and only if the phone is in a familiar location.
When Will We See This Amazing Feature?

Apple is expected to officially announce this powerful security feature as part of the upcoming iOS 27 system during the WWDC26 developer conference next month. This move will deal a heavy blow to phone thieves and will give iPhone users long-awaited peace of mind and an extra dose of immediate security.
