For many years, the iPhone battery has been a frequent subject of mockery by Apple’s competitors in the Android world, as capacities often seemed modest on paper compared to rival phones. However, those days seem to be gone for good; the latest leaks indicate that Apple is planning an unprecedented move with its upcoming beast, the iPhone 18 Pro Max, to equip it with one of the largest batteries in the history of its smartphones, even outperforming its closest competitors in the other camp.

Leaked capacity details: A clear advantage over competitors
According to a new leak circulating on social media platforms, the iPhone 18 Pro Max will come with a massive battery capacity reaching 5235 mAh for the traditional SIM card model (Nano SIM), and a staggering 5425 mAh for the model that operates solely on an electronic SIM (eSIM). These figures represent a tangible increase ranging from 6.6% to 8.5% compared to the iPhone 17 Pro Max series, promising a true qualitative leap in daily usage life.

Some might wonder why there are two different battery capacities for the same phone. The secret lies in the internal structural design engineering; removing the traditional SIM slot (Nano SIM) saves precious physical space inside the device, which Apple intelligently utilizes to increase the size of the battery cells in models that rely entirely on the electronic SIM (eSIM), which are models often aimed at the US market and some select markets.
This increase puts Apple in a strong and direct comparison with the most powerful Android phones. For example, the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to come with a 5000 mAh battery, meaning Apple’s flagship phone will clearly outperform it for the first time in years in terms of theoretical capacity, something we could not have imagined a few generations ago.
Let’s take a quick look at the evolution of battery capacity in the Pro Max family over recent years to understand the scale of this technical development:
- iPhone 13 Pro Max: 4352 mAh.
- iPhone 14 Pro Max: 4323 mAh.
- iPhone 15 Pro Max: 4441 mAh.
- iPhone 16 Pro Max: 4685 mAh.
- iPhone 17 Pro Max: 4823 mAh (Nano SIM) / 5088 mAh (eSIM only)
- iPhone 18 Pro Max (Expected): 5235 mAh (Nano SIM) / 5425 mAh (eSIM only)
How credible are these leaks?

As with any early leak regarding future Apple phones, we must treat these numbers with a degree of intelligent caution. The initial source of the leak was an account on the X platform named FireUniverse8, and although they later deleted the original tweet, the information was widely circulated and discussed in Chinese tech circles via Weibo, where the account Doge Internet Technology sarcastically commented on the deprivation of traditional SIM users from the full battery capacity, questioning how they would be compensated.
However, what relatively supports the validity of these figures is their intersection with previous leaks from the famous and highly reliable leaker Digital Chat Station last February, where they indicated that the iPhone 18 Pro Max battery would exceed the 5000 mAh threshold and range between 5100 and 5200 mAh. The new figures seem slightly more optimistic, but they revolve in the same logical and expected orbit.
Will the iPhone 18 Pro Max have the largest battery?
Although these numbers seem very large for a traditional Pro Max phone, it may not hold the title of the largest battery in Apple’s entire history. Expectations indicate that the upcoming foldable phone, which may be named iPhone Ultra, will come with a giant battery ranging between 5500 and 5800 mAh to support its large foldable screen, but it will of course come with an astronomical price that could reach $2500.

In the end, it seems that Apple is determined to settle the battery life battle in its favor completely in the coming generations, relying on the efficiency of its processors manufactured with advanced technologies alongside the massive physical capacities of the new battery cells.
