Siri Intelligence Finally Arrives on Apple Watch with the Launch of watchOS 27 Beta 3

After two weeks of waiting and anticipation since the launch of the second developer beta, Apple has settled the debate and released the third batch of beta versions for its highly anticipated systems all in one day! This rapid release included iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, visionOS 27, and tvOS 27. The most exciting news for Apple Watch fans is the integration of Siri’s artificial intelligence into the smartwatch system, after it was excluded from the previous beta.

Downloading Siri data on Apple Watch

As usual, activating the new Siri intelligence on the Apple Watch requires first updating the paired iPhone to the third iOS 27 beta. The update process on our iPhone 17 Pro Max went perfectly smoothly, but some users reported having to wait a while for the Apple Intelligence data to finish downloading so that Siri could return to full functionality.

As for the Apple Watch, the new Siri features will not work immediately; the watch will display a message stating that it needs to download its support files and data first. The system directs you to the Settings app to monitor the status, where a “Set up Now” option is available to start the download immediately without needing to wait for the watch to be placed on the charger.

Optimizing Search and Siri on iPhone

Optimizing Search and Siri section in iPhone settings

The third iOS 27 beta saw the addition of a very useful new section in Settings called “Optimizing Search and Siri.” This section aims to inform the user about the indexing and optimization processes that the systems perform in the background after every major update, giving them greater transparency regarding device resource consumption.

The “Learn More” button currently points to a web page that does not exist yet, which is normal in early beta versions, but it illustrates Apple’s desire to provide greater transparency to the user about how data is processed and categorized locally on the device to provide a smarter search and interaction experience.

Expressive Voices and Full Control Over Siri’s Tone

New Siri voice tone control options

Apple continues to improve the interactive aspects of the most famous voice assistant. After expressive voices were just a static display without real control in the first beta, the third beta allowed users full customization through two new sliders: Pace and Expressivity.

The Pace slider gives you five distinct levels to control the speed at which Siri speaks, while the Expressivity slider controls the tone and pitch of the voice to make it sound very natural and human, rather than the usual robotic tone. This allows for a wonderful and highly engaging experience when listening to code recipes, reading messages, or getting map directions.

Other Smart Software Changes in Beta 3

Reminders icon and new AirPods and Shortcuts settings

The update was not limited to Siri, but brought other nice additional features:

  • The Reminders app received a modified icon that replaces the traditional dots with hollow, colored circles.
  • The Adaptive Audio control bar for AirPods has been fully integrated into the main listening options menu for easier use and customization of noise cancellation levels.
  • Shortcuts app settings now allow an option to switch between writing shortcuts in natural language for Apple Intelligence or using the traditional editor used in iOS 26 without forcing you into the AI interface every time.
  • Displaying the cellular network type (5G or LTE) permanently in the Control Center even when connected to an active Wi-Fi network.
  • Adding new wallpapers named “Golden Gate” for macOS 27 to match the system’s elegant codename.
  • A hint in the Mac developer file suggests that Apple Intelligence for Home features will require at least a 2TB iCloud+ subscription.

Is the Public Beta release date approaching?

With the arrival of the third developer beta, we expect the first Public Beta to be released at any moment during this July. It is customary for Apple to release the public beta in conjunction with the third or fourth developer beta, after ensuring the system is stable enough for general users.

From the Phonegram website: A close-up of a smartwatch showing 10:09 with the text 'watchOS 27' in the background, featuring a blue strap and a light blue gradient background, highlighting the seamless integration between Siri and the Apple Watch to provide a smooth user experience.

Although it is easy to get developer versions for free now, we always advise against installing them on your primary device to avoid unexpected software issues and battery drain, and to wait until the public version is released, which undergoes more refinement and software stability.

What do you think about Siri’s artificial intelligence finally arriving on the Apple Watch? Will it make it easier for you to manage your daily tasks directly from your wrist? Share your opinion in the comments!
