Google has officially announced its latest lineup of smart devices for the fall season, in a preemptive move typically intended to steal the spotlight ahead of Apple’s highly anticipated September event. The presentation included the new Pixel 11 phones, a thinner foldable phone, the Pixel Watch 5, and the Pixel Tag key tracker designed to compete with AirTag, with the entire ecosystem bolstered by advanced artificial intelligence features via the Gemini model.
Pixel 11 Pro Fold: A Foldable Phone with the Thinnest Design and Advanced Hinge
Google’s foldable Pixel 11 Pro Fold features a thinner and lighter design compared to the previous generation, measuring just 5.1mm when unfolded and 10.2mm when closed. The device features a 6.5-inch external OLED screen and an 8-inch main internal screen with a peak brightness of 3600 nits and a 120Hz refresh rate.
Google has developed a gearless hinge with an increased bending radius and a thicker glass layer to reduce the visibility of the screen crease and improve durability, along with a glass-fiber composite back cover. The phone is powered by the new 2nm Tensor G6 processor with 16GB of RAM and a 4806mAh battery, along with a 48MP main camera, and is available starting at $1899.
Pixel 11 and Pro XL Phones: 2nm Chip and Super Cameras
Google also introduced the Pixel 11, Pixel 11 Pro, and Pro XL with screen sizes ranging from 6.3 to 6.8 inches. The company added a new LED light feature called “HiLight” surrounding the flash, which glows in different colors to alert users to incoming calls or during voice interaction with Gemini.
The Pro models include a 50MP main camera and a 48MP telephoto camera supporting up to 120x zoom, with support for 8K video recording. The base Pixel 11 comes with a 40% thinner camera bar and a 48MP main camera. All phones are powered by the 2nm Tensor G6 processor, with prices starting at $899 for the Pixel 11, $1099 for the Pro version, and $1299 for the Pro XL version.
Pixel Watch 5, Pixel Tag, and Artificial Intelligence
In the wearables category, Google unveiled the Pixel Watch 5 with a circular screen reaching 3000 nits of brightness and more accurate navigation and sleep tracking. The watch includes custom sports coaching features and one-handed gestures to confirm and select content similar to those found on the Apple Watch, in addition to a new safety feature that detects if the user stops breathing and automatically calls for help. It starts at $399.
Google also launched the Pixel Tag item tracker for $29, which relies on the Android network to locate lost items, similar to Apple’s AirTag. On the software side, Google introduced new AI features including the Magic Capture smart video editor and the Camera Looks feature, similar to the Photographic Styles on iPhone devices. These products are scheduled to hit the market starting August 20.
